Abandoned building refurbishment?
I'm looking for some sort of ability to re-open an abandoned building without it being knocked down. I'm not sure what the point of historical buildings is without this function.

i wondered the same - what's the point of marking buildings as historic if when they get to an abandoned state they become just an eyesore
why does the game have not a regular restoration option for buildings ?

Abandoned buildings will eventually bulldoze themselves and a new building (not same type) will spawn.

However, if you want same type of building to appear, use "Rebuild It!" mod by Keallu.

Abandon buildings do not need to be knocked down or bulldozed. In fact over the years this forum has strongly suggested against the practice of bulldozing abandon buildings. Rather correct issue that is causing the abandonment and they will re-sell the lot and rebuild and populate again. As for historical buildings going abandon I have yet to notice if they have issues with re-populating after being abandon, but then again I don't get abandon buildings anymore. Well, I could if I tried.

If you control a building with this it will freeze the model but also the level of growth. Over half of my 90k city is controlled to level 1. Can't imagine what would go on if those controlled lots were free again. Anyways if a controlled building get bulldozed it will return to that model as long as you haven't changed the zoning. Abandon buildings work the same. So if you don't mind mods...

noobs create abandoned buildings all the time, i am a noob, i get always abandoned buildings

in one city, i've set 3 buildings as historic, one of them became abandoned, i've waited ages for it to be populated again, refurbished, to come back to life, anything, never happened

i really don't understand the idea of historic buildings, cause if it requires well versed players so they don't even get to the state of being abandoned in the first place, then it's bad game idea or badly executed or incomplete
i've also searched the workshop for a mod that would fix that issue, i tried two, they don't really fix historic buildings as such buildings would be fixed IRL
also it takes ages as well for the abandoned buildings to disappear with the Rebuild It mod
there seems also to be an issue with the first mod recommended, the Building States mod, apparently with that mod all buildings become historic, so it's bugged, it's an over a year old mod, i wouldn't recommend it

i would like to have someone make a mod that works as IRL, if a historic building becomes abandoned, then that's a case where the building gets restored, ready to be populated again

I can assure you, even the most well-versed player is going to end up with the odd abandoned building. Law of averages means that at some point that odd abandoned building will end up being a historical one. 100% agree with you about it being weird that this isn't something the stock game lets you do. It makes the entire historical building thing completely pointless as a stock feature IMHO.

i dived further into the mods options, which is oc vast & i think the best option surrounding the idea of historic buildings is to use the Ploppable RICO mod, though unfortunately as it is with mods in general, there appears to be bug problems with it as well

same apparently goes for the No Abandonment mod, bugged as well :lunar2019deadpanpig:
