Resources available, but zero usage?!
I have a city with an industrial region zoned for oil, and I just created a new agriculture zone.

When I click the "Natural Resources" icon in the top-left tool panel, it shows lots of resources but zero being used!

Can anyone explain what's going on?! Am I missing something obvious? :-)

Can't tell what you're missing when you don't actually show what your industrial areas look like :)

Sorry! I wasn't sure what other screenshots would be most helpful. :-)

Here's a screenshot of the full map with natural resources shown:

It's my first game, but I've googled everything else I didn't understand, and it's all starting to make sense.... except for the absolute zero usage of resources... :-/

The oil region has been there for a while, so maybe the oil has run out...? But I have only just set up the agricultural zone, let it develop for a short while, and... still zero use...

looks like you've just zoned industrial over the farm land rather than created a district and selected farming. see this video:

Doh! I created districts, but forgot to set the top one for farming. I did that, and immediately it's registered as 1 hectare, which will no doubt start to grow (literally).

The oil district (which I definitely did set up correctly) must have run out of oil by now, I guess.

Cheers all :-)

OMG! What's happening?!

Since the oil region was no longer producing oil, I changed it back to "general industry". The industries shut down, so I added powerlines to keep the vacant zones powered.

And I waited... and waited... but general industries aren't moving back in!

Even though it wasn't actually producing oil, as an "oil region", it was thriving.

I... don't understand... :-/

Have you checked the demand bar? You might have no demand for industrial . Probably that’s why they are not moving in.

I had demand (on the bars) for everything. Adding the farm zone eliminated the demand for industrial, but industries were moving in, everything was going fine.

Changing the oil region back to non-specific industry completely killed it. My profits dropped way into the red, and that industry zone never recovered. Even though it wasn't producing oil...?

So, I reloaded my previous saved game...

I built that zone with cargo railway and harbour, and and immediately the demand for the harbour was so great I had to increase the funding to max (to increase the number of ships), and build a second harbour not far away. Both maxed out, hundred of trucks use them. It was all looking pretty good.

In the Outside Connections menu option, I notice that oil accounts for about 85% of my imports, and 95% of my exports. So... could my oil-specialised region be working happily by importing oil, rather than producing it...?

:-/

Doh (again)! I realised that selecting Outside Connections highlights the industrial buildings in colours according to imports/exports and... yep... my oil region is exclusively importing and exporting oil.

I guess I have lots of refineries coverting, say, crude oil to petrol...?
