Best roads for roundabouts?
I like using motorway roads because they have no zoning and no parking by default.

Trouble is, I don't think the traffic uses the lanes very well. They all stick in the outside lane, and it defeats the point of having several lanes.

I know the game struggles a bit with traffic AI, but has any found any particular roads that perform noticably better than others for roundabouts? Thanks!

I think Traffic ++ v2 or Traffic Manager : President Edition help with lane usage. Not vanilla gameplay, but could be a viable solution.

give your cims more exits to places/areas they will want to go to and they will use more lanes.

Between each roundabout exit and entrance, narrow the road by one lane. This will force cars going past the next exit to leave the exit lane. Where cars enter the roundabout, add the lane back.

One way two line road clockwise for roundabout and turn off lights and stop-signs. They will flow preaty well. More lines not help much

Hi guys, thanks for all your responses. I found the best solution so far to be:

- 2 lane motorway (w/ or w/o barriers), in a circle or elongated circle, at least 12-14 squares across.
- using Traffic manager, allow lanes IN the circle priority, and lanes coming in to Yield.
- using Traffic manager, force the final left lanes in the circle before each turning off the circle to turn off the circle ONLY (can not continue to next outer lane).

The traffic actually flows like a decent roundabout. Cars can usually get on, because there isn't traffic coming directly into their lane, and cars will go to the inner circle until it's time to turn off, which is how roundabouts usually work.

I agree. For heavily used roundabouts I use three lanes and essentially the same rules: Entering traffic for the first exit is required to keep right (I'm using right-hand traffic), all other entering traffic is allowed to choose between middle and left-lane.

In practice, traffic wanting the last exit (before it would have essentially gone back the way it had just come) uses the 'inner lane', traffic wanting any other exit seems to go for the middle, and the 'first' exiteers, go for the outside.
Traffic manager is pretty much essential though...

Mike.
