Sewage solutions?
I want to play a bay map, but since the water is not moving the sewage would not go anywhere. Which is not only ugly, but potentially poses a problem for the water intake.

Is there really no other solution for dealing with sewage other than dumping it in the ocean?

Not interested in modding the game.

Look under the "Water & Sewage" headiing in the workshop for other water treatment plants which don't require that the water be dumped in the ocean. There is a very effective modular water treatment plant by avanya, which I've used with success; unfortunately, since it is modular, you have to subscribe to six items at once, which is one reason I can't provide a link.

Use terraform to make a pond or little lake not connected to sea, river or lake. Then place the sewage in there. This should contain the sewage within it.

Use water towers for your clean water, then water treatment plants when available for your sewage. With Green Cities you can clean up the pollution, otherwise there's nothing you can do with it.

Does this cause ground pollution?

This is probably the best way to solve sewage.
Dig a big hole and put a water supply in it lower than the edge. The water supply acts like a drain when its above the water line so you will never run over.

Later on, iof you have the green cities dlc you can add a Sewage Cleaning machione into the pond to keep it clear.

The green cities expansion has an eco waste water treatment system. Water it dumps out is clean and potable.

In theory you can have it drain into a manmade lake, and let water pumps suck it up again; self sustaining infinite water for your city. Can use the same method for hydroelectric as well.

Alternatively you could pump it near the map edge and it will flow off...but I use “81 tiles” mod so for most people this wont work.

Early game, the river of sludge is your main option...

But when there is no river? Only still ocean.

Does the water supply have to be hooked up to anything?

Pump water from ocean initially. Use terrain tools to make a sewage pond and dump sewage there to start. You can place the sewage outflow anywhere. You can even make sewage powered manmade hydroelectric dams on an otherwise dry mountain.

Once your city has access to eco waste water treatment, you can use that instead of the sewage pond; its drinkable water, so can go back in ocean or be reused via pumps

Won't the pond just overfill with sewage?

Load up Extra Landscaping Tools Mod.
In it, you will find the water source creation tool, the same one available in Map Creator.
Dig a hole.
Add a water source.
Make it lower than the edge.It will fill the hole up to the level you set.
If you add sewage into the pond after this, the water source acts like a drain.
You will never run over.
Makle a carefull note to never put any water suckinmg source near the pond and on occassion check your landn pollution to make sure its contained.
