Can I choose not to have natural disasters in my city?
I'm thinking about getting the natural disasters expantion, and while I assume I can choose not to have disasters happen to cities I've already created (at least without my sayso muahaha), I learned a long time ago not to assume things about games. I haven't heard anyone specifically say you can't, so I'm asking here.

You're able to choose under Gameplay to disable random disasters. If you wish to have them on, you can change its frequency. The only problem is that you aren't able to choose what random disasters you only want to occur.

Of course, you're also able to trigger the disasters manually if you want, but it takes out the need for early warning detections (Except for tsunami buoys). They're still useful for an exact location of where disasters can hit though.

Thanks, that's basically what I wanted to know.

Also, this isn't a deal-breaker (now that my first question has been answered, I guarentee I'll get the expantion before this Monday no matter what), but can I turn them on/off in the same game? like if I want to grow my city for a while, and then turn them on later after I've had a period of safety?

Absolutely. You're able to change them at any time. The developers even added a little notice to ask if you want to enable or disable random disasters the first time you start a game with the DLC installed, which is nice.
