SLI (2 graphics cards) in CS?
I just bought 2 GTX 1080ti and set them up in SLI. I know they work, having done a couple of benchmarks). The thing is that they don't seem to help at all in CS. I know some games have to be set up in the NVidia Profile Manager (one of the benchmarks had top), is this true for CS as well?

Not every game fully supports SLI, and CSL being one of it.

There's no need either, Cities is CPU intensive, GPU not so much.

Help at all with what exactly?
They will indeed offer you a visually stunning experience, but if you are referring to fps performance then that is not wholly related to the gpu. It is the Unity engine which is the bottleneck.
By all means use multiple top end gpu's for rendering purposes, but purchasing them for a game, even this game, is more than a little over the top.

I didn't buy them for this game, or anything in particular, I like building water cooled PC's, it's my hobby. I bought the GPU's first, because I thought it might help, which it doesn't do, obviously. I was hoping there was a setting-file you could import, like the one in Unigine Superposition Benchmark. Next is a Intel i-9 5980XE and a new 2066 motherboard, but that's expensive, so maybe closer to Christmas. :steamhappy:

1. 64 PCIe lanes vs 44
2. ECC memory
3. Bootable NVME RAID-0
4. Less power consumption and heat
5. Upgrade path: Plop a new 24 or 32-core chip in a few years without changing mobo.

Sure, If you want to spend 2K on a 7980XE for like a 10% improvement over a Threadripper for half the price, by all means. Excellent price to performance ratio for a low and reasonable price... Threadripper. Extreme performance and want the absolute best of the best... 7980XE, but... hope you got that arm and a leg... plus a couple kidneys too.

When he has 2x GTX 1080ti's, asks why they don't help in Cities: Skylines and mentions such a CPU, it's not about performance, it's about throwing all available money at something and hoping it works.

Yeah, well, it's throwing money at a PC that will kick ass. It's way over the top for this game, most games, actually; the satisfaction is getting real good benchmark points. As I said, it's my hobby; not much more expensive than owning a 1967 Mustang (which a friend of mine, that thinks I'm crazy, does). :steammocking:

If your point was to humiliate me, I guess you didn't really succeed, I've gotten too many of those to care.

As I wrote, a hobby, an expensive one, when you build, but a build for around US$7,500 every 3 years isn't too bad.

Enjoy your hobby!
I'm gonna keep plugging away on this rig I built 7 years ago.
The i7 2600k is still good for pretty much everything.
The GTX560Ti handled this game when it was released and it still works reasonably well. I did upgrade to a GTX750Ti, which was great and a noticeable improvement, but then I had a problem with the motherboard and I've had to swap the old gpu back in.
The motherboard is partly fried... some of the USB ports are unusable and I'm not able to power the GTX750Ti via the mobo. I also get some BSOD's from time to time, but the rig is still limping along.
The best upgrade in terms of overall performance was upgrading the RAM from 16GB to 32GB.
I've spent around 1600 euros in total for a rig that has lasted 7 years and I'm not considering replacing it for at least another 3 years.
I'll invest the money I have saved into raising my children and providing for their hobbies. The days when I could indulge myself alone are long gone, but I have no regrets. My kids are awesome ;)

Some of us don't have kids, live on a decent pension and have a lot of spare time. :steamhappy:

Btw, if you Live in Norway you can come home to me and I'll give you a GTX 970 and Rampage IV for free.

Do whatever you can to ensure that you and those you care for are happy and to hell with anyone who finds fault with that ;)
I have family in Dalarna and someday I plan to go visit. I might just take you up on that offer lol

I have plenty of stuff, not necessarily old. I could probably build a couple of water cooled PC's with what I got. So, if you want to try it, just come on over (I live 1,5 hours north of Oslo, you travel here via Gardermoen (E-16).

PS
Some of the stuff that's hardly used I have to ask money for, but most is free (just to get ridd of it). :steamhappy:

there are sli compatibility bits that work great with cities skylines. these people are all jealous and it shows in their replies. with the nvidia profile inspector you can create an sli profile for CS that utilizes % 90 of both gpus. I have two 1080ti 11g in sli, i7-9800x, with quad channel memory and the game runs 100x better than my other rig that has one 1080ti 11g. long live sli to you my fellow childless lots of spare time brother.
