I suggest don't start with everything unlocked first, the unlocking fases help you get through the financial struggles.
You cant please everyone. I mean when the auto save function was introduced it was on by default, there were people complaining it crashed their games, and wished it to be off be default. So they did just that in next update. And guess what, other people complained why auto save wasnt on be default, and lost progress when the game crashed.

Please post a screenshot of what you have done with the power overlay on.
You only need enough power line pylons to connect two different areas together. Then buildings will transfer to each other if they are connected or small gaps of a few tiny zone squares.
Perhaps they don't get out much, or atleast pay attention to their surroundings.
