Landfill vs. Incinerator plant

I don't quite get the connection between these two. I've been playing a while, but this still confuses me.


Do they work together in any way? Like trucks moving garbage from landfill to incinerator to get destroyed?


Or are they independent? Can I have one or the other? Or do I need both?


(As and aside, what do I do with a landfill when it gets to 100%?)

They are independent. In the beginning you have only the landfill and it's the cheapest way to dump garbage. Later you can have the incinerators or the recycling stations. Then you can move the garbage from the landfills to the other facilities, to destroy the empty landfills.

You can click on the land fill to empty your trash into a incinerator.

@Lordgod, any way to decide where they relocate the trash when you empty and landfill?

Because it seems to me when I empty the trash, they relocate to another nearby landfill and there isn't a separate 'incinerate' option.

They will go wherever something is available.. Just watch for a bit, you will see some trucks go to the incinerator, and some got to another landfill..

I've only recently unlocked incinerators myself. But I assume if you'd build 2 or 3 incinerators and then place all landfills on emptying, all will empty to the incinerators, and the incinerators' trucks will start the job of cleaning the city. Then remove all landfills when they're empty and keep incinerators only. They look horrible anyway.

I don't know if it's fully advisable, I'm curious to find out myself based on replies. :P

Landfills will not auto empty you must click on them to empty them. As soon as you can buy incinerateor empty out your landfills & replace them with incinerator.

The way I play, If you click each incinerator individually, you can see how many trucks are in service. I totally shut down the land fills and remove them without trouble. You must be sure to fund them enough to supply enough trucks to care for your cities. Don't have them far from the highway as not to make their trips hard or long! They will run smoothly as long you prevent them from having to deal with traffic jams!

Land fills will empty depending on the production rate of your facility. As far as sending trash to the incinerating plant I personally prefer not to use it as the pollution is to hi for only 12MW's of energy. having the landfill with all plugins active is reasonable to use till you can have a full fledged recycle center.
Having everyone in the city recycling is good or even as I would like to say is the best way to go!!!

I think you are using some sort of landfill mods.

The game's landfills only collect garbage, and to empty them, you need to set them to empty, and they will deliver garbage to the incinerators.

You need Green Cities DLC for a recycling center, and they will provide fright to generic industry (Except farming).

There's a waste control system from one other the other DLCs as well.
