Cars only using one lane

Im casually making a highway, adding a few on and off ramps, And then all of a sudden a big traffic jam because the cars are trying to get on one lane and causing all the cars to stopo where they are. Is there a fix to this?

There is a mod that helps, but can't remember the name (something traffic manger preisdente or something).

But, in general I try and build on both sides of the freeway. Have ramps going to both sides of the freeway (on an off) alternating sides helps. Also an underground freeway from industry to commercial and back helps. One way roads going away from the freeway and to the freeway with less intersections near the freeway helps as well I believe.

Mod will help slightly but eventually you'll face the same situation again because you haven't fixed your underlying problem. Your road network is unrealistic and doesn't work.

You need to learn how to do roads.

That does not seem to work for me and not sure if it is due to the last update and never noticed this before, but when i set preferences for a highway (maybe all roads, not sure) lane to use only cars or trucks by restricting to a specific type of vehicle they disappeared at the section of road that I changed for them. The change is far enough from any exits or entrances so you would think it would be fine.

I just changed it back and left it unrestricted, ALSO could have been that the vehicles, since it was a highway coming in and out (off map), perhaps I should have waited longer for new vehicles to spawn as the vehicles already had a set route?

This is on the main highway, in my city they use multiple lanes and there i can understand may be a matter of where the vehicle is traveling to.

That said, wish they would incorporate this mod into the game.

Edit to add: Maybe the version of the mod I have is outdated as went to link and could be I need to update it...not sure just yet. As an aside, should get the mass transit DLC to see what that is about.

I switched the location of the offramp which hasn't helped either, I have the mod, but I don't even know how to use it, My highways are layed out to have a lot of on and offramps making it convenient for the cars to get to where they want to go a lot faster, It reduces traffic, but blocks it when cars want to get off the ramp.

Even if you use traffic pres, the cars will go from say the outlanes into the exit, causing a major backup.

No mod will eliminate the problems created by the mayor with poorly designed roads.

lol, I resolved it, and uninstalled the game 3 months ago, but thanks for the help anyway xD

While the thread may be 8 months old, the problem still exists for many players learning the game and its mechanics.
