Likewise, I would say lumping whatever bottom-end settlements and living standards (how terrible they may be) together with what is happening in Africa (,maybe India) is naive and ignorant.
But the entire point of this topic was over the colloquial type of slum, slums we actually find in cities. Wanting THAT in a game. you're the deluded nimrod who decided who go all "Well I have a defition of slums that isn't commonly used and I don't think there are any slums in Europe based on my very narrow definition which I am using to conflate African living conditions and low-wealth living conditions elsewhere".
Uhhhh... OP here and no I wasn't saying "just that". Made no such statement. Or maybe you're just making an incorrect statement because you don't think you'll get called on it.
What I DID in the original post was to ask, "why no slums?". Pretty straightforward question. No, I didn't mention Cities Skylines but since this is a game forum that exists specifically to address Cities Skylines a reasonable person would/should - assuming they have an IQ higher than room temperature - be able to deduce that the question related to Cities Skylines.
The single other post I've made responding to another who just pulled nonsense out of his nether parts responding to my OP may - may have implied that I believed the devs had an agenda. I admit that I did flat out state that if the guy I was responding to was right that the devs would then definitely be living in a fantasy world.
I asked a reasonable question, did it with a bit of humor - or maybe not - but the s.hit storm that followed was totally unexpected - at least until I remembered where I was.
Now - since you indirectly asked and since everyone else has chimed in - do I believe that every large city has slums? Yeah. Every city at some point in it's history will have depressed areas where the crime rate is elevated and poverty is the rule and not the exception. That's reality. You lefty snowflakes can deny it all you want. Doesn't change reality.
Do slums belong in the game? Depends on what players want. Personally I think preventing them in game by prudent use of funds, taxation, bulldozing, education etc or eliminating them or revitalizing depressed areas would make for a much more challenging and fun game. Others may disagree. Each to his own. H.ELL! Some might even like creating conditions that encourage them.
All that said - they're not in the game. I think they should be. I wondered why they're not.
Still haven't gotten an answer from those in the know and here's a clue - the players don't know. All they can do is voice an opinion - some interesting, some funny, some ignorant and some well reasoned.
But - until a dev shows up and says why there's no slums in CS the question remains open.
