If you zone commercial on the remote island then it will require goods which will have to be provided by imports and or your generic industries. Any generic industry you zone on the island will require imported resources too, meaning you will have to build a cargo harbour. Add to that, shoppers will travel on the ferry from the main city to shop there. Save all of that unnecessary fuss and as suggested by ristosal above, leave the island commercial free. The islanders can use the ferry to the main city to do their shopping.
Cool, thank you for the tip. I appreciate it. Good to know for in the future if I decide to put residences on the islands. Right now I like having just some tourist spots away from all the hustle and bustle! Trying to learn as I go. XD
