Cities Skylines Build 1.7 Stuttering every 30 Seconds
I am asking for Support for this Game as I dearly love it for the Graphics and Game play.
I am a PC Technician for many years and I build the Highest Quality PCs for Gaming.
This Cities Skylines has a severe Hiccup at about every 30 to 40 Seconds or so. The Smooth Video will freeze for just a very short split Second and the Sound will crackle with the Stutter.

I have built a small sightseeing Town for just Tourist only with no residents yet. On a clean Map with no Mods or 3rd Party Assets this problem still exists.

It just gets more noticeable with Mods installed.
I have tried everything possible to eliminate this 30 Second Stutter with the Vanilla install only and no solution as of yet.

I have done some research on the Unity Game Engine and have come to the conclusion that it is the Game Engine, is at fault due to it is doing a a GC- Garbage Collection dump every 30 seconds or so.
Will this Game ever get an update to the Unity Engine? I see that it is using the Unity 5.6 as of now.

What a terrible waist to have this game running at a Minimum of 30 FPS Still smooth as Butter and up to a Common 59 FPS and still have this annoying Stutter 30 second Stutter..

My Favorite Mod is the Camera Auto Walking that works flawlessly, when in the Auto Walk I can cruise down a Street Smooth as Butter until that Annoying Stutter shows up and it is very disruptive.

Basic PC Specs are, with absolutely no overheating of Components or any background software running that would cause any polling effects.

The unity engine was actually updated when mass transit came out, granted its not the most optimized engine but it does the job i geuss.

This sounds like a mod error to be honest. Do you have a day/night cycle mod or anything that messes with the time of day type of mod installed?

Edit: this game is very CPU and RAM intensive. It will suck up everything you have and ask for seconds. Your stats are better than mine and i get around 70-80fps with 55 mods and maybe 1000 assets installed. It seems to differ from machine to machine no matter what the specs are

Any questions relating to the updating of the Unity engine and optimisation should be made directly to the devs. None of us players are going to be able to answer that for you and since the devs neither read nor post here on a regular basis, your best place to address them would be here,

s/he cross posted over there anyway.

My apologies grapplehoeker I had forgot to mention that I did this same exact post on the Paradox Support website also to the Devs and maybe that has caused a crossed post.
I was posting here too, hoping that maybe someone else had found and answer to this problem.
I have been doing some in depth Google Searching and found that a large number of users of this Game are having the same issues. grapplehoeker you have always been very helpful to me and once again for my apologies.

Hello dadyrghluv69 Thank you for your reply. You have asked about Mods, and as I had stated that I have done a clean Vanilla install with no Mods or 3rd party Assets on a test map and still had this Stutter. With Mods added, then it gets more Hiccups sooner than 30 seconds.

I feels like it is a polling problem do some Hardware related issues, but I turned off all possible things that could cause a polling problem.

I very much respect grapplehoeker's wishes and thoughts. I really need a fix for this Game as my PC has cost me a bundle to build and that said, it should run without any FPS Hitches. I forgot to mention that I have tried running this Game on several different PCs with Windows 7-64 and with Different Video Cards sucha as the GTX 690 and also a GTX 1070 and the issues are still the same results of this Stutter.

You stated 70-80fps with 55 mods and maybe 1000 assets installed.
Holy Molly! Maybe I need to try a lower powered PC?

This is not the first time that I have heard that others are getting High Frame Rates on lower Spec Systems.

I have to say I also have the same problem. I like playing the game and just recently added some mods. deactivated a lot and now playing with some. But the stutters also affect background tasks (like browser with youtube).
It's like a congestion :D then after some seconds its smooth again. later it happens again. dunno what this may cause either.

Excatly SU. I am hoping that they will be able to get this problem patched. I feel like I have waisted a bundle on my New PC. At least other Games run perfectly smooth with my setup.
I know that Paradox probally will deny that it is the Game, but from what I have read on the Unity Game Engine, it is not a good product for Games, KSP also uses the Unity System and it has the same Stuttering issues reported.
Hey, Thank You for your reply.

Same to you jeff :)

I have found another idea (for me with mods using); comes another mod Mesh Info. So i will look what might possibly be the reason (if it is a mod) behind the hiccups. maybe some more info later :D

Ok, Thanks for your help.

It could be the steam client.
jjeff1955 Jul 15, 2017 @ 4:45am
Thank You for the possible cause.
If so, how can that be stopped from interfearing with this Game?
I am using the Less Steam Mod now, and that helped loading times.
I have turned off all Steam Settings for sharing and Streaming.

There are two avenues you can try. One is easy, the a little more complicated.
First run a control test using --noWorkshop launch setting to remove all custom content interference. That way you can eliminate the mod/asset possibilities.

Now, the other route is to use an older lower spec gpu. I have long suspected that there is an issue with the latest 10 series of gpu's from Nvidia, due to the amount of reports on inconsistencies and worse than expected performance with what is currently top end hardware.
There is clearly an issue either with Unity and the 10 series drivers or the drivers alone are responsible.
This is why I suggest using an older tried and tested gpu. If you do not experience the stutter with an older gpu, then it is likely I'm right.
All can tell you is that my old GTX560Ti does not suffer any stutter issues.
I wish you success in getting to the bottom of this.

grapplehoeker you are so correct, I have been feeling that it is my GTX 1080 may be causing this issues. I am running a Latency tester now and I am getting two huge Red spikes every 30 seconds or so. I did turn off the internet wireless card and they went away to just Green Bars. those Red Spikes may be an indication of the Steam Client doing something also. I am doing more testing with Latency Tool and Somehow I will get it narrowed down and share my info with you and the community. Thanks for your help.

Interesting.
Try getting rid of the Geforce experience app too while you're at it. I hope that isn't taking realtime measurement and statistical sampling by reporting back to NVidia. I can't see any other reason for synchronous spikes while connected to the net. I doubt it's Steam.

Hmm... ran pretty well for some time. Mesh info didn't show anything weird. but at some point as I was running full speed in C:S I got pretty bad ping issues and lag in teamspeak O_o As I slowed it down it became better. PC stuff is sometimes weird.
