Can I handle all these assets?
I am new to this game. I am downloading about 700 assets.
I am wondering if my computer will be able to handle that much.
I am not categorizing them into styles yet. I just wanted a solid foundation.
My specs are;
cpu: i7 5960X water cooled
gpu: GeForce GTX980X
ram: 36G corsair gaming
board: Rampage 5 extreme
ssd: 512G Samsung 850 pro

Also wanted to add I have increased power intake and am slightly overclocked from default.

What is your processor clocked at? The specs look good and I'm sure it'll run well, although you may run into some performance slow down after reaching higher and higher populations. I have about 430 assets and runs fine until I start to hit 100k, but the game is still indeed playable after, just that triple speed doesn't work

Dont think you will have a problem! I have an i5 -4690K - GTX980 -16Gb RAM - 250 SSD and run with 1100 assetts and 96 mods. When population gets to about 60K then the game does slow down a bit - but is still playable.

36 gig memory? you can have double the size of assets.. its all about the mem

OK thanks! Not sure and dont want to look now but I am clocked just a hair above factory. I have not toyed with it much yet. I usually only play at single speed so sounds good.

I meant to say 32 but thats good to know. That answers my real question. And ram is the one thing I dont mind upgrading. Thanks much!

there is a limit to the number of assets you can run so it's not exponential. you can't just keep adding more and more RAM and expect to run 10,000 assets.

Do you have any idea around what the limit is?
Metacritical Jul 2, 2017 @ 12:30pm
no. but on the official forum an "asset limit" is often mentioned. however, i know people manage to run over 4000 assets (which is insane in my opinion).

i have i7 6700K, 64 GB DDR4 ram and gpu 1080ti, game installed on SSD drive and still issues when population reaches 200K with 25 bus routes! game slows down

I'm running an I7, 500 gig SSD, GTX 970, 32 gig RAM 1 tb drive, and absolutely crashed mine with half those assets and mods. I don't think that should have happened but I had to reinstall and it's still glitchy. dDon't know what is wrong. Anyone have an idea??

With that amount of RAM you'll likely not run into any issues in terms of number of assets. The most important thing is not to use horribly unoptimized, high poly assets like a 5000 triangle car when the vanilla game vehicles have no more than 700 at max, since that will cause a lot of visual overdraw, crippling your GPU.

This is even worse with foliage. Be really careful with foliage. Flora with high triangle counts will destroy your performance if grouped together in large quantities.

A lot of these crappy assets can be recognized by their large file size. A simple car shouldn't be 15 mb for example.

All that said, if you're sensible with the assets you pick, you shouldn't run into any issues until you run out of RAM at runtime.

y0u are right. we should not be running around like its a shopping spree. if this does not work i will have to go back and cherry pick.
