Is there any built- in game Video Memory (Vram) usage limitations?
Hello everyone and I got 300 assest and 20mods, Including the Adaptive Prop Visibility Range. the munufacture of my graphic card has a software which can report the Vram usage,Then I found that the Vram usage in game is always stick to 3000MB without any change during the game.

My video card has 8GB vedio memory(Nvidia GTX 1070) and I have
32GB System RAM(dual channel DDR4 running at 3000mhz)
Ryzen 1800x CPU running at 4GHZ.
win 10 64bit (build 1703)on Nvme SSD
I just wonder that if the game has an intensitive limitation of Vram usage rate?Maybe we can get proformance improvements from here?

The UnityEngine may have some function that would let the devoloper to limit the totol Vram usage in order to prevent problem from occur. At the time when game was realased there are few graghic cards had more than 3GB Vram, and we know that Vram overflow may cause some problem which makes some devolopers tried to prevent it by limit the Vram usage(like GTA4).

Is there anyone who have more imfomation which could confirm that?

I have noticed that no matter the FPS rate is high or low, the video memory usage is always stick to 3000MB in my game.AND at the low FPS rate, the GPU usage is very low too, it is reported that is under 30% which make the GPU core fequency running at low speed, not boosted speed of the Nvidia card.(my GPU temp is normal, and it dose run at boost speed when I zoom in and the frame rate increased)

Thanks to anyone who wants to help!

I'm no expert but did you try these launch options?
+vt_pageImageSizeUnique 8192
+vt_pageImageSizeUniqueDiffuseOnly 8192
+vt_pageImageSizeUniqueDiffuseOnly2 8192

I found them here: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=1040-JWMT-2947
and they seem to be for a different game(Rage) but I couldn't try and compare results to yours because I don't use mods therefore my GPU don't use that much VRAM while C:S is running.... So try it AT YOUR OWN RISK
At the very least, I'm able to load the city/saved game with those launch options set for C:S.. Not sure if it makes any difference that the game is running with those launch options though. Just trying to help
Thankyou! But I found that was my fool, since I have a wrong configuration on the hardware monitor of my graphic card which makes the Y axis of the Vram usage display panel to be forced cliped at 3000MB and consequently I got the wrong reading.

Engineers always say that the first thing to fix a problem is to ensure that your test instruments are gaving the correct reading, and its definitely right.

After I have fix that the reading was above 7.5GB,although it`s lagging all the same,I cound know that there`s noting wrong with anything.

Thankyou all the same!

By the way,4K resolution is just a hardware killer.Others said that they have over 1000 asset and get a VRAM usage of 6.8gb
Just out of curiosity, what aftermarket GTX1070 are you using anyway? I ask because the manufacturer of my GPU, Zotac, has a software Firestorm which does not indicate the exact VRAM usage, only Mem Utilization percentage. However, I was able to get my GPU working with other software like MSI Afterburner and EVGA PrecisionX OC... so I'm thinking of trying out the software you're referring to. Thanks in advance
Colorful, and its software named igame zone.GPUZ can show the exact VRAM usage too.
I use this because it can adjust the fan control strategy and OC.The really powerful function of this software is that it can read the BIOS out, creat a BIOS file, then safely modify that by copy the OC settings in the software into the BIOS file.

Colorful graphic card has dual bios, can be switched by a physical button.one is the standard NV setting, another is the stock OC BIOS.if the BIOS flash failed on one of the BIOS,it can be recovered by simplely switch to another good BIOS to boot and get to the OS environment, and then hot-switch to the bad one and flash it again(So the BIOS file will be write into the bad one,not the one used to boot;and colorful said that the hot-switch won`t cause any damage since its designed to be so)
