Train vs Metro
What are the individual advantages for using trains to transport people vs metro to tansport people? These are so far what I can find:

Train:
-can bring in tourist when connected outside
-seems to carry more passengers than subways

Metro:
-station uses less space
-being underground
-have cheaper upkeep than trains?

Based on my list, using metro seems to be better than using trains. Can someone expert in CSL shed some light on this topic please.

Well I'm no expert in whatever CSL is, so I can only speak from experience of playing the game.

As you put, the train is good for bringing in and letting out tourists and carries up to 240 passengers of the 180 a subway train can hold. Both appear to move at roughly the same speed as far as I've seen and if the train tracks are set up right, you'll never have to worry about the tracks being clogged. However having a system of trains running around seems to be noisier than subway station, but if noise pollution is managed this won't be much of a problem. That and it appears the train station has a larger coverage in which people will commute.

As for upkeep, they both are expensive to run but the trains appear to be substantially more expensive. But if put in good locations with stops running between residential and commercial areas and being in close proximity to buildings like the arena or other major tourist destinations and a cruise ship harbor, I've noticed the local commerce receives more than a strong enough boost to help cover the costs of operation alone. Though in my case, a portion of my train expenses are hit by my export/import of cargo at a cargo train terminal which also helps boost industrial income.

Now I can't say all this is absolute fact, but in my experience they both have their perks, as my strongest cities have solid lines weaving through them of both train and subway stations placed at key locations to help pull pressure off of local highways and indirectly boosts income of commercial areas.

I don't know if this helped any, just putting thoughts out there.

Hopefully to help, the main difference between metro and trains is that metros cannot be connected to outside lines and metros are also much cheaper to maintain. Now the explaination on train links to outside lines!!!!!

Firstly grapple has a great screenshot of how to properly set up trains. You need to know, and this works for ships and planes as well, that for every station you connect to an outside line trains/ships/planes will spawn for each outside city. Meaning , lets say theres 6 outside cities usually more, but for this explaination lets say 6, 6 trains will spawn and connect to your station. If you connect a second station to the first, so that it is also connected to an outside line then 6 more trains will spawn going to second station etc etc etc.

This means that sooner or later your tracks will be bumper to bumper stationary trains. To defeat this, just connect 1 station to outside line so that all trains from outside stop at this 1 station. Then build another station next to it so that it is not connected to the first and NEVER is. Have a footpath connecting the stations for tourists etc to "change trains" which they will do gladly.

After your second station is built hook up as many stations to this 1 around your city. Keep in mind you will need $1440 for upkeep on each train station and as previous poster says have good noise containment. What I do, 1 train station to outside line and use metro to go around the city. This also is the preferred way to set up cargo trains using a large loop type road setup connecting outside to inside train lines.

Best rule of thumb, 1 station per outside connection for trains/ships and planes. You confused us with CSL, we mostly use CS as short for cities skylines.

Wow, that some really good information there, so a train station connected to the outside means a set amount of trains coming form the outside, right?

Depends on the number of cities that map generates, can count them as trains arrive and depart, clicking on them will tell you where they came from or going to. Number can be as high as 10, thats how far I counted once, but who knows. Wasn't gonna sit there and count for an hour lol.
