Really unhappy with some features

I had 2 issues playing today that were so awful they really spoiled the game for me. The first is that I'm trying to collect items for "quests." The particular item I was looking for was white pelts. I've never seen more than 1 at a location and I need to gather 4. Maybe they are super rare but still very grindy. At any rate I set off on a very long voyage to collect my one white pelt and of course when I get there it disappears from the stock. Welp. So I muddle around until it shows in stock again. I return and....it disappears from the stock again. So I go back and forth like a fool between 2 towns waiting for restock and time after time it does not appear. Is this some kind of joke? Is this coded on purpose to dangle a carrot I can't reach or is this just really bad AI? The 2nd issue is I got so fed up with the boring fight sequences that I decided to try the "quick fight" option which I've never done before. I am on a road where I win all fights easily without any serious damage to any of my characters. The stats show my team as being significantly stronger. I go into quick battle, get completely destroyed, and lose a whole bunch of my hard earned stock. Why?? Once again, seems like really bad AI. I know it's a work in progress. I've certainly had fun playing this game. But those experiences today soured on the game today.

I don't like random goods either for the reasons you described. We are currently working on a patch where, among other things, I will remove the randomness of goods.
Regarding quick battles - they are not designed to pass actual content. You must have a strong squad, and the road should not be higher than 3-4 level of danger. Quick battles are only for passing weak roads.
Stats can't show that your squad is "stronger" because you don't see the enemy squad before the battle. And there are not 4 of them, like in a real battle, but 8 at once.
