Massive FPS drop FIXED
FIXED 110% after last patch. Still hate the 2d map but THANKS :P

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I particulary notice when getting hit by railguns my FPS seems to go to total crap. However, Plasmas and lasers still have this as well.

Anyone else experiance this or is it just me?

I just checked to be certain using FRAPS:

160+ FPS on 2D Map

95-100+ FPS Just flying in 3D Space

44-60 FPS getting hit by lasers

6-17 FPS getting hit by railguns

SPECS:

Processor: AMD Athlon(TM) II X4 640 Processor 3.00 GHz
RAM: 16.0 GB
OS: Windows 7 64 bit
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTS 450
PSU: 980w BFG

UPDATE:

GPU Uprade: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130836

Upgraded my video card to NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 FTW Signature 2. (also upgraded the power supply)

(I got the 3GB GDDR5 version)

Still have the same issues with railguns dropping FPS!

VIDEO:

Fraps actually makes it look BETTER:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rE9-eeI-JtA&feature=youtu.be

But in the end of the video you can clearly see the FPS dropping while my buddy shoots his railguns at me. The FRAPS FPS counter was reading 30-40 until someone shot railguns, when I actually got hit by those railguns in the end my FPS dropped to 6 lol. This was recorded with my new graphics card GeForce GTX 660. Also of note, I see the same results reguardless of what my graphics settings are set to.

MSI Afterburner report:

TEST 1:

TEST 2 (Closed game completly after test 1)
http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/800x600q90/33/arut.jpg

The above images is from MSI Afterburner, you can see the massive spike there is from when I got hit by railguns.

If any developers have free time, can you perhaps tell me what is different about railguns so that I can attempt to adjust the relevant settings on my video card? It migth have nothing to do with my settings, but I dunno, my fps literally drops 20 or more frames per second when I get hit =P

I'm still trying to fix this issue on my end, but...my options are getting limited outside of replacing more hardware (CPU would be next lol)

Ran some benchmarks and adjusted my overclock:

Unigine Heaven Benchmark 4.0
FPS: 74.8
Score:1884
Min FPS:20.4
Max FPS: 122.5
SystemPlatform:Windows 7 (build 7601, Service Pack 1) 64bit

Unigine Valley Benchmark 1.0
FPS: 42.1
Score:1760
Min FPS: 14.5
Max FPS: 67.7
SystemPlatform:Windows 7 (build 7601, Service Pack 1) 64bit
CPU model: AMD Athlon(tm) II X4 640 Processor (3013MHz) x4

Also I ran two benchmarks with MSI:

http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/800x600q90/163/hrvx.jpg
http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/800x600q90/560/tpxp.jpg

The FPS drop still persists in Entropy though. My min FPS is (maybe) low in some of the benchmarks but on average it was always closer to the max. Not sure if that matters.

-----------------------------
UPDATE

The FPS drop is Far worse after patch. The more NPC's on screen firing, the more FPS drop.

The game is completly unplayable, even trading because of the ammount my fps drops when intercepted lol

--------------

UPDATE: FRAPS makes the FPS look BETTER and it still looks horrible

Horrible FPS once guns go off
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jCd1-qSKgqU&feature=youtu.be

FPS dropped to around 20ish at first then down to 6-10

Watch the combat log in the end of this one

Dropped to 13 FPS in an asteroid belt once all NPCS started shooting

I have the same problem. I switched to lasers because they aren't as hard to hit with when the FPS drops like you describe. I just assumed it performed worse in Linux. I haven't tested a windows install yet.

System specs: Nividia 560 TI and 16GB DD3 RAM on a I7 920 CPU.

what screen resolution were you using and what game graphics quality?
Archtastic Jan 6, 2014 @ 10:38am
Lowest possible on both because clusters of asteroids makes it really laggy otherwise for me.

I wonder if the graphics are being generated on the server or on the client and sent over the network? putting as much into the client as possible might help.

I'll try to get some fps statistics for my system for some more data points.

Oh I'm sure it's all rendered on the client. Any logic is probably done on the server.

Cool, let me know your fps in various situations.
Anyone else able to replicate these results? I am curious to see if this bug is affecting more people lol
Droolguy Jan 10, 2014 @ 5:24pm
I can't say I can replicate but so far both of the systems reported are getting a little long in the tooth. A 450 is quite old and a 560TI is not much better.

Your talking about some really low end graphics cards.
The 560TI is ranked 36th out of current production graphics cards.
The 450 is ranked 104th out of current production graphics cards.

Outside of max low settings you might be asking a bit too much out of your hardware for a modern PC-only title.

It looks like it's time to upgrade.

What FPS did you produce on your system? System specs?

At the very least with my tests railguns produce the most FPS drop, I'm sure regardless of the system even if its only a few FPS drop you can replicate some correlation. Let me know

I haven't checked my FPS Count so far if I am in combat, but it happens rather often, that my FPS drops (in a feel-able way) slightly if being hit by NPCs or hitting NPCs with Laser Beams.

Same applies to Plasma.

There's another FPS issue on my end...dunno if I'm alone with it:

Certain Systems cause huge FPS drops, from dropping to 10 FPS down to 1 FPS. Gzira is one of those Systems.

Asteroid Belts also like to cause terrible FPS Drops.

I run the game on highest settings, because reducing it to lower settings won't increase FPS at all in such situations.

Hardware:

AMD A8-5600K Black Edition (Overclocked to 3,9 Ghz)
EVGA nVidia GeForce GTX 570 OC. 1.3 GB VRAM.
8 GB Memory
Windows 7 Ultimate x64

Yeah I get fps drop at first when zoning into red asteroid belts. Fps will steady after a moment and will drop again once they star shooting.

Also, when in a group on the 2d map some systems will drop in fps until you leave group...not sure why

Not gloat but I have a rig that has 32 gigs of ram, a six core processor at 3.5 ghz per core and 8gb total between sli video cards... in a laptop. Loading screens as of this update barely flicker up before dropping down into the field. This thing can handle anything but if I run into an asteroid belt with a lot of high end ore clustered together even I see a slight drop in FPS, like a heavy motion blur kind of thing. However I haven't noticed combat affecting it at all or more so than that.

So something is up.

Oh also windows 8.1 and running the game on Fantastic setting.

Hope that helps

I am guessing that you have the combat logs open when this happens, because the damage logs that spam the chat window when ur hit/hit others do lag me alot. Try to go in to the trade chat channel or something like that, it may be the workaround you need untill the devs fix this.
You know what that mighttt have something to do with it lol. I'll have to test that out.

I've had situations where I'd die, then suddenly 30 combat logs spam me saying ive taken damage AFTER I die lol
