The 2D-3D transition was superficial and meanginless. The game failed because it was shallow, disfunctional, and had some of the worst development progress I've ever seen on the whole of steam.
This might seem like a duh, but if your game/s doesn't entertain players they won't play it. Doubly so when they can't even log on half the time for bugs and lag.
Ironically enough, free-roam scifi MMOs look like they're gearing up to be the next-big-thing (Star Citizen, No Man's Sky, Eve, that pixelish looking game, etc) and you couldn't even capitalize on that.

Tell us, how much of the "pack" money did you spend on other Steam games?
The drop in number of players from that transition is clear for any who want to see steamcharts.com
Please don't radically alter your game like that in the future.
That said, thanks for being good developers who were transparent and accessible to the community. I pressed you guys to share your financial data and you did. Your developers talked to me openly about their staff and issues, and it was a breath of fresh air.
I'd buy your next game because of your honesty.
