Shift key and sticky keys
I am running into trouble with holding down shift for shortcuts activating sticky keys.

First, only the left shift key is working for short cuts. Now that I know what's happening, the right shift key is blocking.

Second, the magic tutorial is *very* confusing. It gives me this long sequence of things to do for shortcuts. It *IS NOT CLEAR* that this is Shift, then one of left, or right, or space, etc -- reading the instructions it looks like I'm supposed to do this long and complex sequence of things. And if I'm trying to use the right shift (left handed mouse), it doesn't work.

And I cannot prevent this from triggering the OS's "i will force ~~sticky~~ slow keys" when I'm holding down the shift key.

(KUbuntu 22.4 LTS, Even with proton experimental.)

NB: Do not just say "Go to system settings and turn slow keys off". It is turned off there. It still wants to force it on when I hold the shift key down. I have no idea how to actually disable it.

EDIT: Oh joy. So this was reported (now that I actually found the right site) 2 years ago:

Use a controller

I do not have a controller. I have a keyboard.

This is sold on steam for computers and keyboards.

KH3 treats each key as a separate input, including Shift, Alt, etc.
They have separate icons whether they are left or right.
Plenty of games will inevitably trigger Sticky Keys, I recommend turning off the shift input option in Windows.
Regardless of whether you choose to do so or not, you can also remap keyboard inputs in the game's settings.

Edit: Ah, just realized you're using Linux. While I haven't dealt with Sticky Keys in Linux, surely this must be changeable there as well?

It absolutely is, most likely found under accessibility settings

I know very little about Linux, but I found this on how to disable it in Ubuntu Linux.

Sadly, that does not work.

KUbuntu is not Ubuntu. And worse, **I HAVE STICKY KEYS TURNED OFF**.

KUbuntu did not say "Press shift 5 times to activate" -- it's "hold shift for a few seconds".

I wish I could upload a screenshot here (not a steam screen, sadly) to show you

EDIT: Aha! It's not "Sticky" keys -- which I have turned off -- it's "Slow keys" -- which is also turned off.

I am assuming that since you're running KUbuntu you have at least some knowledge of how programming works. The problem here is that for some reason the sticky keys settings are reset on boot due to an oversight in development. This guy had the same problem and got a solid answer. Seeing as your problem is less about KHs and more about Ubuntu you'll have more luck searching there.

That person had a different issue. He wanted sticky keys to stay on. My issue is that I don't want slow keys, and I don't want it to turn on by accident. [Also, that's a 9 year old bug that has been fixed]

I have since learned two things:
1, even though LTS is supposed to get bug fixes for 5 years so you don't have to upgrade all the time, they are not fixing this bug. So, long term, i have to upgrade.
2. Someone gave me a great work around -- turn slow keys on, and set the delay to zero. :-).

I still have to deal with losing the shift key after 8 seconds (because the system ate it for the toggle of slow keys), but I no longer have the loss of input of normal keys.

Welcome to gaming on Linux. I the original Steam PC was just as bad, and going other distros lead to other weird problems with it like the desktop getting stuck and having to repair it via the command line. I finally just slammed Windows on that box, and I used redhat for years at work.
maybe you outta invest in a controller, would make things a whole lot easier
