In regards to DDD 2.8 it includes some cutscene movies and that weird aqua game that fill in the story between DDD and 3.
If you tried to play just KH1 without the extra .5 youd have quite a few questions going into kh2 and same for DDD into KH3.
The kingdom hearts series has plenty of non-numbered releases between the main entries are deceptively large and story filled. All of em are full releases and not just spin offs.
