You want to let the translucent circle to go into the red circle where the X (or what you have) button is. Use the visual cue and you will get it. I did it earlier today after an hour and it was miserable.

There's a mod that automatically completes it, I had no problem whatsoever using mods to beat it and all the other annoying waste of time minigames
