Just remember that KH1 is slower-paced, pay attention to enemy moves, your attacks can parry enemy attacks based on if they connect with one another (giving larger attack windows) and pay attention to building your party's level, choosing of skills and the gear your party has.
Combat gets better after KH2 (release date-wise that is, so think birth by sleep, 358/2 days, Re:Coded (i think)) in that it's technically just easier due to being more fluid, responsive and it giving players more tools overall to overcome the game's challenges.
Me neither, I've always wanted to and now I'm stoked I have them all (i think? I assume this is all the Kingdom Hearts games? At least those released so far) on Steam.
I'll give you the same advice as I gove to anyone starting the mass effect series: Don't get discouraged from the first game's gameplay, it gets better latter on and it is absolutely worth it.
These games have at the sime such a light atmosphere, almost child-like, with such deep stories. It's really something you don't see so much nowadays.
Tip for the first game: It has a lot of backtracking, but don't hang up too much on it, at least until you've finished Tarzan's world (can be the third or the forth world depending on how you proceed). After finishing it you'll get the warp drive, which makes you be able to visit places you've been to before without going through the Gummi Ship missions. Focus first on finishing Deep Jungle, after that, go as you please.
Another thing worth mentioning, if you are a completionist and is aiming for all achievements, don't change your party, always go with the two default ones, there are some missable trinity along the way.
There is another one, Melody of Memory. It is a Rhythm Game
It adds a few things to the story and the lore, but you can find all cinematics on youtube. For some reason it didn't come to steam yet, however, I believe we'll not have to wait long for it.
PS: The game is the last one released, so you can play these games without missing anything, I just recommend going to steam guides, there is guide there telling you in wich order you should play the games so you'll understand the story.
