There's a guide that gets passed around to help out with that.
It isn't chronological order, but chronological order is a weird way to play Kingdom Hearts in general.
I personally prefer the feeling of playing 1 and then 2, and playing Re:CoM after to fill in the gaps, because the story of 2 kind of works the gaps in anyway and Re:CoM isn't super fun for me.
Embrace Release Order
(you don’t even want to know the mess that chronological order would bring)
Like these people said going birth by sleep first (chronologically the first) is only a good idea if you struggle with KH1s wonky camera and controls and want to be eased in. While it doesnt spoil anything storywise it does sort of kill the magic of KH1's keyblade plotlines (Playing KH1 first you go in like Sora, with no idea what a keyblade is and learning as you go). If you start with BBS you follow a story of 3 keyblade wielding champions who know exactly what they are and regard the situations they get into more like trained soldiers than traditional RPG characters.
I think that's everything covered in the collection. I can't tell you what it will be like playing them in chronological order. I don't want to spoil anything so I will put this in spoiler text just in case, but it's not a real spoiler
The newer games kind of retcon older ones so it will be an interesting experience and that's why I would recommend against it if anything
Anyway, play them however you like.
Cause Missing Link isn’t out yet
Not to sound indelicate or arrogant, but these HD Remixes, right from the title menu, give you the right order to get through the series. It's all Square Enix's advice of how to follow the series.
Kingdom Hearts -HD 1.5+2.5 Remix-
Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Rogue
Kingdom Hearts ||| + Remind (DLC)
What is the release order?
I have the following:
Kingdom Hearts -HD 1.5+2.5 Remix-
Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Rogue
Kingdom Hearts ||| + Remind (DLC)
