Square PLEASE FIX THESE ISSUES - BUG REPORTS WELCOME
I posted my review saying I couldn't recommend because of all the issues and I wanted to gather all the issues I think need to be addressed ASAP here. Feel free to also post any here.

Below is the review which contains the issues I noticed that NEED fixing:

STEAM DECK ISSUES:
- Audio crackles on my non OLED Steam Deck whenever a BGM is playing. Its distracting and awful to listen to.
- The screen squashes when using the native 16:10 800p resolution, making the feature of supporting the resolution useless.
- The game can randomly nosedive in framerate for a couple seconds. In particular when booting from rest mode.


NEW ISSUES:
- Some of the AI upscaled textures look awful and lack any polish. Any time a texture contains any type of shading thats supposed to create depth or a shadow its completely flattened; All dithered patterns that are supposed to create a gradient are over sharpened and create a grainy pattern instead.
- Some models now load the incorrect textures.


LEGACY ISSUES
- Instability. The game does not handle alt tabbing or framerates higher than 60 well. The games can crash easily losing to hours of progress potentially being lost or corrupted saves.
- Memory leaks. The games leak memory and will continue to do so until they either crash or (hopefully) release all the unused things stored. You can check by looking in memory usage and watch as it grows and grows as you play.
- The game effectively doesn’t function on RDNA3 GPUs
- The fullscreen mode is pointless as the second you alt tab it switches back to windowed mode. It also doesn’t let you chose the refresh rate of
The display just the resolution. The refresh rate option just acts as a vsync instead of actually matching the display’s refresh to the game’s framerate.
- You can’t select your refresh rate on full screen mode.
- Many sound effects are broken and lack reverb like Xigbar's guns.
- The game's frametime delivery system is just broken. If you try to use gsync the game is a suttery mess. If you disable it the game can still stutter on loads.
- The higher framerate options above 60 are worthless not just because of increased instability, but because some objects when rendered on screen force the game back down to 60 anyway.


'These are the main issues but there are others like COM lacking its alt control options or it still lacking basic additions like dual audio or cutscenes above 30 fps, but those I can stand recommending without. The main issues I listed NEED to be addressed. Most of them have needed to be for THREE YEARS on EGS. Please dont leave the games I love in this state"

BONUS: Re-Fined fixed almost all the issues present above so if fans can do it, I'm SURE Square's port team can

And ofc there's the crashes which u've already mentioned.
I'm really disappointed by the lack of polish for this port. Kingdom Hearts is a legendary series and deserves better than this.

Right stick up and left won't register when you try to change inputs manually in-game.

Also more minor, but noticed these issues in KH1.
- Giant Ursula boss eye tracking doesn't seem to work so well (This is at 60fps), both of her eyes don't fully track the player so she appears cross eyed regularly through the fight.
- In the beginning area of "End of the World", as you get further away from the rock where you start at, a bunch of blue polygons appear around the rock

Really hope SE take fixing these issues more seriously now, these could and should be the definitive versions of these games.

the recom control issue literally makes 0 sense, it just goes to show how much testing they actually did.

There is nothing wrong with the port on that one. The scenes that were not in the original and were added in Final Mix don't have any English voice overs (they may have japanese if playing with japanese voiceovers but I can't confirm that). It has been like that since ps2.

Just launched the game again and Borderless Fullscreen/Fullscreen output at 16:9 with Windowed outputting a stretched 16:10.

Seems to only be a case with the launcher. Same issue as the quoted one applies when in the actual games. Fullscreen will give ideal results.
Borderless Fullscreen is locked to 800p, Windowed to 720p and in Fullscreen you can switch between the two and a few other resolutions. As it's written in the original post 800p is wrong. It is as if black bars are added at the top and the bottom to make 800p contain a 720p picture and then that framed image is outputted as 720p making have twice the size of empty bars up and down making the image look squashed.

Using "Stretch" as Scaling Mode in Steam Deck's performance menu makes 720p fill the whole screen, while using it with 800p makes it look like 720p.

You do realize that this would require more programming, considering that with KH1, it's based on code written for a game from 2002.

I'm gonna blow your mind:

Re-Fined added all of the stuff I mentioned here as part of the games (except Combo Boost for BBS). Not via an external program, not via mod. Just seamlessly part of the in-game menu

If fans can do it, so can Square if they remotely cared. And did I mention it also added proper 16:10 support and 60fps cutscene that don't crash the games

they can definitely fix all these issues, they fixed the pink agaricus issue from PS3 on PS4 and also fixed the games to accommodate for 60FPS.
Well this is sad all these issues are here. I was gonna get this as i been waiting a long time for the series to hit PC, but now think I'll put my money towards paper mario The thousand year door.

Literally any amount of work on any game regardless of the year it was mode would require more programming, yes.
To be clear though this isn’t PS2 code. That was lost forever ago. These ports life as a PS3 collection that is reverse engineered Ps2 game. So technically its PS3 code, that’s then modified to run at 60 for the PS4, then translated for the DX12 API so it can run on Xbox and Windows 🤓

I'm having audio de-sync in most cutscenes in Re:Chain of Memories. If cutscenes last a while it seems to get worse over time.

Try reducing FPS to 30.

Found solution to my problem. Change audio channels to 2 in system settings. Not sure if this is doable on a Steam Deck though.

True that. I am aware that they had to make the game again from the ground up for the PS3 due to losing the original code. The fact does remain that it would still require additional programming, and I doubt Square is going to dump some of their resources to make any of that happen.

I think it happens when there's multiple sound effects occurring at once.

Tried 7.1 surround and many other things and nothing fixed it.
It's not game breaking, but annoying nonetheless.

Hope Refined fixes my issue.

Correct me if i'm wrong but didn't they lose the source code for the PS2 game and had to build KH from the ground up for these PS3 collections? I thought I remember somewhere that they had to use a copy of the game to help build the new by playing the old cause they messed up somewhere.

(Which also begs the question why make a 1 to 1 remake at that point. Could of updated the camera at least to KH2 levels lol)

If you leave the first Kingdom Hearts in sleep mode on the Steam Deck, the game completely freezes after waking up, and it’s impossible to access the Steam Deck menu. You have to completely shut down the Steam Deck by holding the power button. It's really annoying. This doesn’t happen with other games (not Kingdom Hearts).
