I've already played through the game several times in English, and now I want to play it in Japanese. You're the odd one for not wanting something extra.
Try to think global and not just english only.
This game is available in two versions: Japanese and International.
Select your preferred language via the Steam launcher by right-clicking the title, then selecting "Properties" followed by "General".
NOTICE: Save data cannot be transferred between the Japanese and International versions.
Japanese version does not contain English subtitles (or any subtitles) the subtitles are burned into the cutscenes on the older games you can't even turn them off.
The only one you can play with Japanese audio and english subs is KH3 - or wait for a MOD somebody will inevitably write a script for the japanese version and work out how inject it in.
I'm wanting to use KH as a way to study with the japanese version, but my girlfriend and I will also be playing through the english version. It's insanely inconvenient. Can someone please tell me I'm wrong and theres an easier way around this?
Basically every time I go to swith the language in the steam properties for the game it essentially "patches and then updates" the game throughout the entire 70~ gigs...
Does Family Share work with the game? Perhaps have her install the game from her account on her own Windows Profile, see if that can create 2 installations of the game? Create another Steam account and have that in family share too and have that one set for Japanese version.
This might be the only work around for now... Thankfully its something I can easily try. Thanks for the suggestion!
For anyone else who might find this later; I'll be sure to come back with my findings lol
BUT HERE'S WHAT I FOUND for anyone interested in being able to play a both English and Japanese version
-> I went to the steamapps/common/ folder and renamed the version I had downloaded to something like, "KINGDOM HEARTS -HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX-E" for the English version
-> Then I switched the game to Japanese prompting the game to redownload the game files in Japanese
-> I now have a normal named Japanese game file version titled, "KINGDOM HEARTS -HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX-"
-> Whenever I want to switch to the English version I just change the Japanese version from, "KINGDOM HEARTS -HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX-" to, "KINGDOM HEARTS -HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX-J" (adding the J to then end)
-> And then rename the English version to omit the E at the end to just read as, "KINGDOM HEARTS -HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX-"
This has saved both of my gameplay files (as of about 20 seconds into both games) and allows me to have both versions downloaded on my PC and can easily switch between them by altering the game file name as I stated above
I've even seen ways you can automate this online, but this is simple enough for me I dont mind
HOPE THIS HELPS SOMEONE!!
(gonna add this search query to the bottom of this post so it may help someone find it)
"how to install 2 versions of the same steam game different language" "how to install two versions different language on steam" "how to play kingdom hearts final mix in english and japanese"
It's not being a weirdo, my wife is japanese, she likes disney but she doesn't know Kingdom hearts at all, so I wanted her to enjoy
Shake my d head.
Best off waiting for the mod with Japanese voices to update.
