KH2 - Crashes at End Game After Beating Final Boss - Cut Scene Crash
I'll try not to spoil too much about the story, but this is ridiculous. After you defeat the final boss in KH2 you're put into a situation where there's a series of cut scenes that you cannot skip. The crash happens right after R opens the bottle and reads you the message.

From what I can see online, this cut scene switches to a very high detail 3D cinematic that isn't using the 3D models in the game but is instead "Movie-Like".

So far, I've tried changing the graphics chip that the game is running on.
I've set the refresh rate to on and off.
I've changed the resolution of the game down to 720p.
I've changed between Windowed, Borderless and Fullscreen.
I've tried changing the FPS limits from 60 to 30 and unlimited.

What else am I supposed to do to fix the problem? There's no way for me to save, It takes me around 30m to beat the final boss in all of the different modes and there's no way to save, there's no auto save or checkpoint if it crashes. I'm so sick of having to beat the final boss just for the game to crash. I can't get the achievements or even see if there's a special save for beating the game so I can do endgame content.

Was having the exact same problem don't know if you've tried setting the refresh rate off while in windowed mode but it worked for me

Hey bud, I tried that. It didn't work unfortunately. :( Might have something to do with display resolution on the PC or of the game in combination with that.

have there been any solutions? this is happening to me and i’ve had to go through the last boss section twice to no avail. sucks, currently playing on a 1st gen steam deck

It happens the same thing to me, at the exact moment.

after trying various setting adjustments and what not, what ended up fixing this for me was to use PROTON GE

It happens to me too. Heck even the cutscene that you get at the menu screen in Kh2 causes my game to crash too. Idk if this is only for Kh2. Nothing else seemed wrong with my games till those points. I tried everything and nothing works. Its extremely sad cause I can’t even beat the game. My friend is able to do it but not me for some reason

I had the same problem. I tried to unable the steam overlay and played the final battle in window mode and it finally worked for me!

I am also having the same issue at the same end cutscene right as the note in the bottle is handed to me in KH 2.5. I went to 30 FPS and turned off refresh rate. I will try to disable Steam overlay to play in window mode. But it seems like not everyone is having that fix the issue...

It's not even that the final battle is hard, it's just annoying that it is four parts and not fun to play over an over.

I know that some said there were issues with the Epic Games port similar and many of us are having issues with the Steam port, so it is frustrating to spend this much money on a favorite game again and not be able to complete it. I have heard BBS is having the same issues by players, which is next on my list. I have a few crashes with KH 2.5 throughout with cutscenes, but somehow went a long way getting through each one until it crashing on this one.

Not that I have room for mods or anything, but I am for sure going to look into anything that can solve this when I start BBS!

No idea how, but I did every trick in the book people have mentioned to try to get past the cutscene and after four tries - I made it. Only thing I couldn’t try was switching to a different integrated graphics card because I thought I had an Intel one but I don’t.

I have AMD Radeon Graphics (Primary/Integrated). I know enough about IT to adjust settings but not enough to know what is important/why it worked. So the only specs I have listed don’t seem to show anything but device ID, vendor ID, subsystem ID, and subsystem vendor ID as well as BIOS version and part number. I made sure the drivers were updated and installed an AMD troubleshooter from their website.

Here’s what worked for me (no idea how/which combination really saved it all):
- 30 FPS selected in game settings
- 40 Hz selected in refresh rate advanced display computer system settings
- In graphics preference via device manager, added the Kingdom Hearts games and selected under properties: “don’t use optimizations for windowed games”
- Switched off Steam overlay in Steam settings
- Switched to borderless on 720 p in game settings for the display window
- Disabled GPU scaling in AMD Radeon settings
- Disabled AMD FreeSync in AMD Radeon settings

I am not a techy person but I am more computer literate than many. Shouldn’t have to do all of this to run a game I paid for when I checked the minimal system requirements before purchasing and it said my system would run it fine (I know I don’t have a gaming laptop, so I wasn’t expecting it would, but it said it did).

Best of luck to everyone. Going to try BBS now (not sure if I will try returning to default settings and seeing what happens or just keep these… 😩). It amazes me that this many of us have tried so many things and somehow it works for some of us and not others.

The first time I beat him it crashed for me at that exact spot too. Reloaded and beat him again changing nothing and this time it didn't crash playing the entire unskippable ending. I was anxious the entire time hoping it wouldn't crash again. But I managed to luck out and reach the endsave point.

Had the same issue on Linux (Fedora) - here is what I did:

- Proton GE 15
- Windowed Mode
- 30 FPS (MY EYES!!!)
- 720p resolution
- Steam Overlay disabled
im runing this on a laptop with windows 11 I had Windowed Mode, 30 FPS,& 720p resolution enabled but I don't know what my graphics card is (& even if i did i woulden't be able to get a new one) & also i don't know how to disable steam overlay
