Why does Riku look so much older and taller in 358/2 days

The events happen around chain of memory and 358/2 days wich is less than a year after KH1 Sora has not changed so why does Riku.

doesn't he appear near the end of Days ? meaning that almost a year has already past, he is also a year older than Sora, he just hit his growth spurt

I think he appears during mid year in the game to fight xion? can't remember exactly.
