Locking on isn't required. The spell just needs to hit them.
Be a little quicker with Thunder. The spell has a wind-up and a slight bit of RNG on when they're hit. It's likely you're using it too late in their animation and the lightning is landing just after they stop the animation.
Yes, I know locking on isn't required, but it helps ensure they get hit at all. Watched someone over the weekend spam Thunder a bunch with no luck because it just wasn't hitting the right mushroom despite being close and having their camera centered on it; had them lock onto the correct mushroom and they got it next try. Coincidental? Possibly, but it could still help, so I suggested it.
no i wasnt locked on the target- but the yellow marker was on the target and it was the only target around to get hit- apart from flowers (lotus forest in wonderland world) if they even can get hit?
i did manage to make it work by standing a bit of a distance away- like the distance of blizzard barely reaching? and it started counting normally. i guess standing in their face was messing with the game somehow?
Thunder is inaccurate on single targets and will sometimes take multiple bolts for the hit to land. Thundara has AoE around the strikes, making them less RNG. Thundaga has groups of AoE bolts, making it even more likely you'll hit your intended target earlier.
At the end of the day, Thunder RNG is gonna RNG. Come back later with a better version. It's not like they drop anything you'll need for early game forging either.
