Palace is kinda obvious cause of the tridents pointing at it. Ariel's grotto is to the right.
To get to the Ship and Ursula you need to use the Dolphin in the big room. He'll take you straight to it.
That's all you really need to get the world done and over with.
In the geyser room I'm pretty sure you can smack an urchin to blow a hole in the wall and make a shortcut into it so you can reach the palace and that main room easily.
Another shortcut you can make is between the ship and the grotto entrance. At the bottom of the ship area, enter the cave and activate the geyser. The stream will push you out by the grotto along with the chest that was blocking the hole. (The chest can also be opened.)
For this world, try to rely on magic more than physical attacks; it'll make the combat a lot easier.
From there go back from the Tridents and into the large open area by going up the upward stream in the middle of a room. Beat some heartless then ride the dolphin up the stream.
Once at the ship, get the chest with the Trident head and go back to Ariels grotto, there's a shortcut in the boat room.
Once you've done that you need to leave the area and go back to the boat bit. Sebastian can push a button behind a small broken boat behind the bigger boat. Follow this along.
Follow this path up and then when you're done, you go back to the boat and you can go to a room across the current.
Boy was this world dirty in the sequel, though...
I really don't get the hate either. It's quite simple,
