These games aren't the PS2 copies. Reading this thread, or applying the most basic of possible critical thinking would have answered this for you.
I know a lot of this thread is people trying to flex on each other, but I think the compression point is worth mentioning. Around the mid-late 2010's, a lot of developers either stopped compressing the files or just stopped caring as much in general about compression. IIRC CoD was one of the pioneers of this. If I remember correctly, this was also around the time large storage started to get very cheap. Going from several hundred gigs of HDD storage to 1-2 TB's for cheaper than the large HDD's used to be was a pretty large jump in consumer storage access. I think because of this a lot of the developers in the AAA scene just don't bother much with it anymore. It's also probably the reason you see such a stark jump in games either being around 40GB or 100GB, Other miscellaneous reasons not withstanding such as HD textures that are not optional downloads.
Now I haven't looked at anything regarding to why the KH collection specifically is so comically large. All the remastered pre-rendered cutscenes probably take up a large amount of space I would imagine. Add that to the upscaled textures and you probably have your answer. They simply went way too hard on the cutscenes and textures. They've also gradually increased the size of it over the years by 20-ish gigs after porting it to different platforms, I would guess because of continued development on each port making it larger.
Like I said though, I haven't checked specifically. But it IS kind of hilarious they ballooned games that were only several gigs to being nearly 100 at this point. Especially when previous ports of 1.5 and 2.5 were only around 20 gigs lol.
seriously, we need to stop letting the companies keep getting away with such a sloppy job
FF12 on the switch he says. Dude it was barely a remaster on the switch.
The in game movies show clear artifacts.
I don't want compressed remasters. They were COMPRESSED.
I played the compressed version.
Ps2 was about 4.2 in size.
Uncompressed on the emulator it's 7.3
This version is 7.2 or so.
It's basically just playing KH upscaled.
YEAH WE KNOW, I would PREFER the PS2 versions because it's EGREGIOUS that you're expected to install a full 75GB!! Sometimes you might just want to play one or two of these games, and theoretically they could be running on a potato with only 12GB of storage free... THEY 1000% SHOULD BE ABLE TO
I don't know what the file layout situation is on the PC version, but if you emulate the PS3 version you can literally just cut out whatever game/movie data you don't want in the file browser. I wish Square would just make this a direct option somehow, maybe split the games and/or their HD textures into DLC.
The steamdeck ones are actually worse quality they are not compressed they are straight up 720p there home skillet, I played it on Linux with windows build and then steamdeck=1 and compared the videos are just 720p over 4K quality.
Epic is 71GB now too they updated both versions, but its the AI textures that made it jump higher
Also same i have like 20TB of storage. people out here still on 1TB be WILDIN.
hell only mostly new games require a SSD most of this old junk can run on HDD just fine I have 10TB HDD and it has everything that isnt basically a new game on there its just fine.
Also the movies arent even that big as someone who has a movie drive modern movies at resolution and bit rate from Famous look style movies yarr harr
720p - 900-1.1GB
1080 - 2GB -2.5GB
4K 5.8 - 7GB also 4K movies are mostly 1608p ish not 2160 so you have to account for that too.
Depending on length the people talking about movie compression literally have 0 idea what they are talking about; the games movies are compressed. (again the steamdeck has them at 720p rather than 2160)
Pkg are the textures and assets.
Kh1 ending movie is 914MB its about 18 minutes long so 1 hour would be 5GB
1 hour and 30 minute movie i have is about 5.4GB for a 4K movie. and these are done in 2160p so yeah.
Also PS3 Verisons of KH1.5 HD remix ISO PS3 - 20.2GB
KH2.5 remix 19.7GB
together make 39 and those games were only 1080p
The ps4 versions are slightly bigger to about 58 ish GB with the improved movies
we went from 58 to 71 to have mid AI Upscaled textures
