We had soft resets with R1+R2+L1+L2+Select+Start on PS2 because the games did lack the options to return to the title screens. I do not see them necessary anymore.
I don't get how inconveniently going to a save circle/ menu is better than instantly soft resetting the game lol. And the "Alt F4" way is extremely slow since you have to renavigate through the entire game selection screen and sit through copy right stuff.
The KH1 save menu reset also does not consistently work, it can crash the game.
I was never upset about it, but I definitely reset a few times by mistake in those older games. Thinking back on it I'm not sure how, considering holding start and select isn't normal. Honestly, I think I'm thinking of accidental ctrl + alt + delete in DOS FPS games. So never mind that.
It was neat how much you could break Secret of Mana with it though. (There was a bugged save spot where if you landed there and saved the "previous screen" data would be bugged, and it would normally lock the game but with a soft reset it would take you to whatever screen you were in last when loading the file. So you could teleport anywhere either with a new game or loading a different save first.)
In KH, you have to use the shoulder buttons + start/ select, so it's not just something you can probably accidentally press. It's a feature that I doubt many people even know exists.
