Okay, I actually just remembered something about KH that MIGHT possibly explain the always online part of it.

As we all know, most of KH isnt multiplayer, but there is a portion of the game that has a multiplayer aspect to it.

Below is the ending of Kingdom Hearts 3, if you have not already beaten this game, do NOT read what is below the spoiler, you will regret it if you like the KH story at all. BIG BIG BIG BIG SPOILERS!!!
At the end of KH 3, you are supported by all the players from, I believe it was Union Cross. All the players that did that, had their name invoked as a Keyblade Weilder, to help Sora at the climax. That is what the massive amount of keyblades are.

If they are planning on doing something along those lines, it would explain to a certain degree, on why its always connected. Not saying this excuses it, but its at the very least, a valid possible reason, and would make it a bit more acceptable.

Epic Store doesn't have a DRM to offer, all DRM is from the dev/pub creating it or they bought it from a third party. So no; it's nothing to do with Epic Store and everything to do with the DRM that square Enix put on it.

With this game though, Epic IS the DRM... You cant run this without Epic running, or an active internet connection. That is kind of what DRM is made to do. Or at least, what its evolved into.

Steam is the same for a lot too btw. They are changing recently due to how the steamdeck works, but there are still loads of titles you cant play offline, or without Steam running.
Fast majority of games run offline with no probs. A lot of drm free games are here as well. Steam drm or steam sub is very light and i can play all my games without steam with a tool to preserve my games. Many devs release their games on epic totally drm free for some reason like on gog but without the installers

That's irrelevant to the conversation.

EOS can also be used in Single Player games, such as Ghostrunner, which require a online connection at all time, otherwise you get a warning. It so epic can take agnostics.

When the client is in offline mode, running every single game gives that Connection Error message, its automatic and has nothing to do with DRM, its Epic simply making sure people understand that some games may not work properly, again it happens for every single game, even if you try to launch something like Brave internet browser through EGS while in offline mode on the client you get that warning, its automatic message regardless of the game/app you are running. Valve could do the same thing if they wanted to, have it automatically appear every time you run a game in Steam offline mode, regardless if the game uses Steam's DRM or not.

When getting that connection error box you simply click ok and the game, in this case Ghost Runner, starts up.
Valve is not so dumb to do that. But online drm implementation was a decision made by square not epic. Epic has so many drm free games
