Well done CM! The Drag DLC is fantastic.
Having spent all last night playing the new drag DLC, I have to say I'm thoroughly impressed.

No other company/game has nailed drag before, that I've seen. By bringing in the strategy of staging, the random swings to left and right after gear changes and wheel spins, you have added enough strategy, opportunity for improvement, and tiny nuances in the cars to get used to, that this pack will keep me entertained and pushing to improve my times for many weeks to come.

Best reaction time so far... 0.31s! [EDIT: as amphy has so kindly pointed out, I meant 0.031s] I'm aiming even lower still and to make this consistent.
I have yet to get a perfect shift in the funny car, and have so far found the hot rot the hardest to drive (yet am now to the level I can perfect every shift, just gotta get the launch to be straight every time)

I hope this mode will become a staple in future codemasters games and that any feedback you find in these forums will only improve it further.

My first and only suggestion for improvement so far is for MP mode only. It would be great to see another player in the second lane :)

Well done to the CM team :)

What does everyone else think? To all those who have decided against purchasing this, or are still sitting on the fence, I urge you to change your mind! The AI is competitive but fair, and provide a real challenge.

I have only played it for 10 mins or so and I'm a little bored already accepting the fact I need to play more. I was hardly compelled to play further but I know some things grow on you.
It would be interesting to see the demographic detailing those who like it and and those who don't

There are some American types of racing like Drag and Nascar and err (is Indycar one)? which have originated (sic) in America which I have always believed would be preferred more by Americans... I'm aware that may be obvious?

It seems over with too quick (of course) and I get the idea it can be fun shaving off tenths to improve your skills but I'm not sure that works for me. I'll leave it open for a change of mind so I'll just remind you I have only played 10 mins and only embraced two of the cars/series.

NFS Pro Street had a very good Drag component. You could modify any car you owned in order to drag race it.

Pro Street also had a Wheelie competition as part of the Drag component.

It is still the best implementation of Drag Racing in a SimCade.

@RockBinkie 0.31 or .031? There's a pretty major difference between the two :P

So far my best reaction has been .012, and I've gotten a couple repeats on it. I'm unsure as to whether or not you can actually make anything faster, but I'm sure it's possible. Other than that, I'm really liking it myself, even though not a lot of people are running Funny Cars.

I've noticed a couple of staging bugs, such as the car getting staged and then unstaging itself, the game never counting down, etc etc. Not too often, but noticeable enough to disrupt lobbies every once in a while.

Also, there was a lobby earlier today running drag with Coupes. I don't know what to feel about that.

haha 0.031 for sure!! I was out by a factor of 10 :)
Awesome. Yeah, I haven't seen much people get below .06, but it's the best reaction times I get that usually send me flying off track. I'm trying to understand if there's any consistency in the cars, because I can go in any random direction off the start.

It can be a lot more rewarding when you're racing other people on MP too :) if you give that a go you might find a little more love for it. But I reckon the cars were less challenging to keep inline in MP, is that just me or has anyone else picked up on that?
It feels the same both online and offline, I've had better runs offline than online.

Nah it is definitely random the direction they go off the line. I've had them go to the wall and the centre line with seemingly very little difference in my starting technique.

With the hotrod and funny car I stage them as far forward as I can and release the handbrake when I anticipate the green. Trying to jump the start from a shallow stage seemed to always result in me using too much throttle and the wheel spin sent me to the wall or centreline. Where as when I launched with a further forward stage there was less sensory overload and my starts were cleaner, straighter, and more controlled. I could not see any noticable difference in my total times from doing that, but the margin of error is down to 5 hundredths of a second between a good run and a bad one.

Thanks for the feedback, please do keep it coming - the good and bad. It is a 'new' thing for us so any thoughts you have we'd greatly appreciate. Is it something you'd like to see more of?

Glad to hear the positive stuff coming through, thanks.

NO matter if someone like Dragracing or not, the new part of the game is done pretty well. it is not really a race, it's all about conzentration and reaction.

the only problem i have is: i'm moving forwart to 0 meters and press the break. often the car is moving forward although i press the break. imediatly i'm disqualified

so i have to move to 0 meters, then break, then i have to change the gear to neutral. when the green light is coming i have to change gear first in to first gear. i lose a lot of time with that (probably 0.1 sec). i don't know if this forward-moving is a bug or on purpose. it would be good if cm could solve this problem.

beside that i think it is a nice feature beside the normal races

Drag DLC playtime:
90% loading
3% waiting / positioning
7% racing

This should be called a Loading game DLC, not a race game DLC.

No pun intended, 100% accurate.

(btw don't QQ about load times, I got a 500 gb SSD from samsung, sadly your overall lobby consists of people with wooden pc's from WW2)

Are any modders at work setting the 1950s gassers up for the regular racetracks? I'd love to take them around some corners.

The Drag Dlc is the only reason I purchased this game. Before this game I gave up on drag racing in games. Like you said no one could do it right, the closest I've seen is nfs Prostreet which I still play off line tuning and dragging but thats old as hell. I've wasted so much money on games because they said they had drag racing, well lining up two cars side by side and counting down 3 - 2 - 1 go without a tree or staging pit is not drag racing. Codemasters please show those devs how to do it. Thanks , for once I have a game worth enjoying.
