Give us the option to remove corner cutting penalities
I can't explain how annoying it is when you go 5cm further on the curb than the computer decides is fair so it shuts off your engine and ruins your lap. Why can't we have the option to turn off that rule and self regulate?

EDIT: Even though I've clarified it three times now further down, I am referring to SP. MP might also have an argument but I am specifically talking about the SP experience.

In your case if you were able to self-regulate you wouldn't have had these messages in the first place to 'ruin your lap would you?

You are breaking the rule already... I can only think you mean you would like to cut corners arbitrarily and where would that leave you and your opponents - all cheating on corners and arguing you didn't.

Great idea...

I don't think you understand what I'm saying... I'm playing single player on my own. The computer arbitrarily decides that on some corners 2 wheels on is fine where as others its not. Sometimes you can go further, sometimes you can't. Sometimes you can even spin off and it will try and penalise you.

What I'm saying - if you bothered to listen - is I want the CHOICE to turn this off. What are the AI going to do, accuse me of cheating?

The rule is that all four wheels over the white line on the outside is considered a penalty. I have put many races under my belt so far and have not experienced where it is only two wheels over the lines is considered a penalty.

Now crossing the inside corner and corner cutting is slightly differnt as the rule is that you can not cut the corner to gain an advantage which generally deals with the body of the vehicle more than all four wheels.

Additionally, the game for the most part does a pretty good job of deciding if putting four wheels off or corner cutting is worth a penalty or not based on if you gained enough of an advantage or not over your opponents.

In some areas the game is a little lax about these penaltys and doesn't penalize you even though it should. This is on long corners where the high speed can cause players to drive off and usually doesn't result in any sort of advantage, or so the developers thought when they didn't institute a penalty there. This is because the developers probably know that we aren't all expert F1 drivers and we're going to make more mistakes than the average real driver.. Especially with the amount of us that use sub-par steer wheels, controllers and keyboards.

Now where I feel the game has failed is where drivers go SO far outside the lines that they are able to cut out multiple corners in one go, making their line incredibly more faster and because the corner cutting or all four wheels off is SO extreme that the game can't even calculate if a penalty should be given. This of course plagues the times on the multiplayer racenet challenges with drivers experiencing a wide range of feelings about this with some drivers going as far as to say that it's cheating.

That's my two cents. :P

They should not give the option to remove it, but rather they should try to improve it. take for example Algarve. The last, long turn before the straight to the finish line. Two wheels off the track (outside lane , not inside) can easily grant you a hefty penalty. What I find unfair Is it starts suddenly at a line . I was slipstreaming a friend and I took the exact same line as him maybe a mere cm to his left It was very negligible he sped forward while I got a near 2 second penalty dropping me from 2nd to 5th. Also there are two corners ( one in Yas Marina the other Indianapolis) where you can go wide off track (outside the corner not inside line) and join the track after a zig-zag turn and not get penalised whatsoever and the key is to stop accelerating and cruise past easily granting you a 2-3 second lead over the other players. Luckily not many people seem to be using this method but It hasn't been fixed either. Also I feel like going fast and outside the track in the first corner at hockenheimring gives you a slight advantage I don't know I could be wrong.

Penalties are there for a reason. To stop the numpties from abusing exploits like driving over the grass to cut seconds off the laptime as they used to in Grid 1.

I agree than some of the penalties are a bit lame and excessive but removing them completely is not the right way to go.

Track knowledge will allow you to drive to avoid the penalties it is all about practice.
Trapgat Sep 8, 2014 @ 2:13am
If someone deliberately bumps you off the road there should be no penalty involved for you.
TwoOne Sep 8, 2014 @ 2:23am
Why not just add X seconds to the overall lap time instead of shutting down the engine?

Don't get your knickers in a twist. I assumed you meant in MP as you didn't say SP...

With corner cutting we feel we've improved the system greatly since GRID 2, that's not to say it can't be better, there will always be room for improvement - but right now we're relatively happy.

As of now it's unlikely we'll be making any changes to it, either allowing its removal or changing the behaviour of the corner cut system by adding time at the end of a lap etc.

Please do keep the feedback coming though!

Much better than it was in Grid 2 for sure. Now it weighs the advantage that could have been gained finer but of course it's not a bulletproof system.

Since there´s no more gravel or grass beside the tracks this discussion is through all series up to Formula One

In real racing the penalies for "ignoring track limits" also looks almost random, too.

It´´s annoying got the ignition cut off as in ADAC series "Junoir Kart", but

Offsides is when the referee whistles

So respect track limits-stay between the white lines
[FOX]FoxTech Sep 8, 2014 @ 8:41am
Agree.. the new system is a major improvement with the issue being the drivers that find the extreme loopholes by going far far off the track to set their lap times several seconds below the rest.

I understand the system is a requirement for MP, but I have no interest in that. It literally is ruining the SP experience for me, as it probably is for 1000s of players who play the game and say nothing. If I'm in a tuner and I'm taking a hairpin hard, I don't want to have to countersteer half way round the corner in fear that my fourth wheel might graze the white line and the AI will turn my engine off. Its such a cringeworthy feeling and it takes all the fun out the game.

No other racing game sees it as such a huge problem as to literally turn your engine off if you take a corner aggressively. Who exactly would we be cheating by having the option to self regulate or even alter the sensitivity of that rule in SP?
Axe Sep 8, 2014 @ 1:23pm
I find it keeps my driving honest because it's a regulation which if broken has consequences - much like the 2-wheel rule on white lines in F1.

The problem is if it is implemented then it needs to be working 100% which it doesn't appear to be the case, otherwise fastest times and race wins are potentialy subjective to one's own 'belief' If I win or get a fast time trial I want to know I earned it with no possibility of ambiguity.

Even though it is a pain in the butt to suffer this slowdown which is very deflating when in the middle on an important corner I just see it as penalty I have incurred myself and one of which is paid immediately in-game.

It's not like we can be given a drive-through or a drop in place in the next race.

I fear no matter which penalty system could be implemented there would be someone unhappy with the penalty incurred.

Totally agree with this especially in single player mode where the AI loves to ram you to try to stop you from overtaking.
