Random FPS Drop / Audio Crackling
So randomly when playing, usually once per race, the FPS will drop from 60 to around 10, and the audio starts to crackle. This will go on for about 20 seconds, then everything goes back to normal. Adjusting the graphics settings has no impact on this. I found a video somebody else posted showing the same issue. Any ideas?

I didnt take time to read everyting. From another post where I had this issue... Could be controller or wheel related with recent windws updates.

Get something like fraps to see your frames per second. If it is bobbing up and down turn off your wheel if you have one. Hit space to enable the keyboard. Is your FPS stable now ? IF so welcome the the hell microsoft infliced with its latest "update" which contained new usb drivers !

I had stutter and the same issues you listed. I did windows system restore to before the updates and its fixed.

I then disabled windows updates. As a former IT manager of an large engineering firm , I ran my shop like this with only browser, office and java updates and had almost ZERO issues. Windows update is the devil.

Just watched the video. This is definitely not a problem with the game, but something on your computer. This game is more demanding than most games which may mean that it happens sooner in this game than in others.

The problem seems to be an audio buffer issue. If you watch carefully, halfway in the video the game already starts to slow down a little bit and it graduatelly becomes worse until it just can't handle it and the buffer crashes. A driver then is reset and things are fine again. At least that is what it looks like.

What OS are you running? I know windows 8 has some serious issues with usb hardware where this can happen. To give you an idea: if I leave my pc in my bedroom running for several hours, eventually a driver will crash and audio will play worse than what you hear on your end, and video will not play either as a result. (video is synced with audio) If I reboot my pc all is fine. I did a latency test (windows 8 has tools for these because it is a problem there) and it shows that the latency is massive (+25 seconds, where it should be .01 second or less). Updatng the driver should normally fix it, and so I did. I have had the problem since but not that much.

That leads me to requiring more information about your pc. We keep asking it, and you keep saying, its the game, my pc is fine. If this is your attitude, we assume you don't want to be helped.

Can you state us your full pc specs? OS, hardware, setup, etc.

ALSO, there are already numerous topics about it, but if you have an SSD as your C drive, you need to fix your replay folder. An SSD will cause serious problems if its space is running lower than 25% of its total capacity. Problems such as this.

This isn't a PC problem, jesus christ. Both that person that posted the youtube video, myself and another poster in this thread have rigs that are more than powerful enough to handle the game. I myself have gtx 770, 8 gigs ram, 3.8 ghz 8-core amd. It is not normal FPS slowdown. I know what that feels like. This is random and feels like a memory leak or some weird conflict between the game code and a driver, piece of hardware, etc. It is not an issue with the hardware itself, but an issue with the game causing this weird issue with a percent of users.

it makes you wonder why you bother trying to help some people...

You're not trying to help anyobdy lol. You haven't provided any insight. I am looking for others who have this issue and found a way to fix it. It isn't a hardware suffiency problem. Why are you even commenting on here?

I started trying to assist you by asking your PC specs pal. I had no idea at that time you were such an 'expert'...

Someone eventually gets your specs and you say "This isn't a PC problem, jesus christ." Looks like someone too up his own arsse to bothered replying to.

PS. I comment where I wan't OK with you Hmmmnnnn?

No, Xbox Controller.

Have you tried removing usb devices to see if the problem clears (while the game is running) ? I had this issue and it was my wheel drivers after the latest windows update. I rolled back using the bult in Windows system restore to an earlier date and it fixed me up by removing the windows update.

I have not. I read about the racing wheel drivers, might have been a post by you. I will try this soon. Thanks for the advice.

The fact the the issue took a few minutes to start makes me believe that this could be caused by any USB device depending on someone setup. It almosts acts as if there is an IRQ conflict (old school stuff) between USB and video/audio.
