Weapon repair Degradation WTF!?

I just noticed when I use my Engineer to repair a weapon, the max durability of the weapon drops by roughly 35%. When repaired by the quartermaster, it loses only 1 point of max durability.

What's the deal with that ? And does it ever regain it's max durability ?

Time will probably tell, but I find this rather odd.

It's ok with weapon degradation, because it's a mechanics rules.
Quartermaster has a "perfect" skill of repairing rather than any engineer.
Consider weapon repair with Engineer like a plan B during battle.

More like a plan Z. As soon as I realized you lose 35% durability I sold every screwdriver and brush I had. What's the point of repairing something that will end up having a much higher propensity to jam once repaired. It's also something to totally avoid if you have a rare weapon.

The weapon repair is a good feature but it's implimented horribly.
