I can't get this game to load.

The game begins to open and plays the music. But I cant get to a game menu screen. I wonder if it didn't download correctly from Steam. Is there anyway to delete it and download it again?

Sorry for necroposting this but I have the solution for the black screen problem.
It's a dosbox configuration problem related to the type of output screen option.
To fix it, follow these steps:

1. Go to the folder where the game is installed. E. g.: C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\Common\Lords of the Realm I\English\Lords of the Realm I

2. Open the file dosboxLords1.conf using Notepad or similar.

3. Go to the [sdl] part, in the beginning of the document.

4. In the output line, erase Opengl and write surface instead. E. g.: output=surface

5. Save the changes and close the file.

Now, the game runs perfectly and you can reclaim the throne of England without problems.

If you're worried that Steam did not download the game correctly you can right click the Lords of the Realm in you Library, click the properties, click on the "Local Files" tab, and finally "verify integrity.." option. Steam will check if there are some damaged or missing files in the games folder and will try to redownload.

Early in the config file there's a line that says output = Opengl
Change it to output = surface
That's all there is to it.
