ObsCure Music Restoration v2.0
Hello, just wanted to let all the fans of the game know that I was able to restore all the cut songs from the Steam re-release. Not too long ago, I found out the game was re-released on Steam in 2014, and decided I just had to relive that game from my youth. Like many of you who got the game on Steam know, there were several changes made due to the music licenses, and all licensed music tracks and videos were removed from the Steam re-release. Well, that's no good, so I figured somebody must have come out with a music restoration mod by now, right? Wrong.

The closest to a music restoration mod I found pointed me to this Steam forum, where another Steam user detailed how he was able to restore the original intro video, with the song by Sum 41 (thank you for that guide, btw). With that info, I got to work and, sure enough, it worked. The intro video was restored to how I remembered it, but no other licensed songs in the game were restored. Here's a list of changes in the Steam re-release:

1-The song by Sum 41, "Still Waiting", which played during the original intro video, was removed.
2-The ending credits song by Span, "Baby's Come Back", was removed.
3-The Extra Video of SPAN, "Don't Think the Way They Do", was removed and replaced with "Video of the Prototype".
4-The Extra Video of Sum 41, "Still Waiting", was removed and replaced with "Trailer".
5-In the Extra Menu, the Morgenstern Bat shows a Mace, but in-game it is the correct bat.
6-In-game during SPECIAL Mode, the Morgenstern Bat inventory icon shows the Mace.
7-The Morgenstern Bat in the STEAM version is clean, while the original version has blood stains on it.
8-In the Extra Menu, Kenny is shown wielding the Mace, instead of a normal bat.
9-Achievements were added to the Steam version…hey, I never said ALL the changes were bad.

Anyway, after successfully restoring the intro video, I wanted more, so I got to work. After too many hours going over all these files, I was able to restore all the original music and videos to the game.

Note that this guide requires that you have both the Steam version, and the original, 2004 pc release.

Before anyone asks: no, I won't send anyone any of the files. Not only is it illegal to distribute these files, but the filesize is such that you cannot easily distribute them. As long as this is done for one's own personal use, MRS should not have a problem with it, though.

Oh, and this mod is version 2.0. I wrote a guide on how to restore all the music and videos to ObsCure, but it's far from being user-friendly, as you have to manually move a LOT of files. That's version 1.0. Version 2.0 is a .bat file which is pretty much automated. The included guide is pretty self-explanatory, so I don't expect any problems on that front.

You can download the newest version (v2.0) here:

For those interested in version 1.0, get it here:

In case Steam edits out the URL's, just do an internet search for "Obscure music mod". I uploaded both of them to NexusMods, and there's a couple of my posts on GameFAQs, as well.

Edit: Steam removed the URL's for the downloads. You can see my full posts, with download URL's, at NexusMods or Gamefaqs.

Great! I hope you enjoy your re-replay of the game!

Also, while replaying the game, I remembered one thing I always hated: the game is great about giving you maps for each area, except the 'Basement' and 'Garden' areas, and I always disliked the idea of going in blind to these areas. I decided to map everything in the game, using the in-game graphics and maps. Granted, you don't really need maps for the other areas, but if you ever wondered what the 'Basement' and 'Garden' maps look like, mapped out, now you can check them out.

Oh, and these maps are only for 'Normal' mode. The other modes, EASY, HARD, and SPECIAL mode, are the same as 'Normal' (the only thing that changes in different difficulties is the amount of resources: EASY gives you plenty, while HARD gives you very little). Also, in case anyone wants to print them out, they are meant to be printed in "Landscape" orientation. I've also included a "ReadMe" file detailing what all the symbols I used mean. The maps are in .pdf format, within a .zip file.

As usual, Steam will delete any external links, so anyone interested in these maps can find the link on the GameFAQs ObsCure message board, posted under my nick, Bwah117.
