How do I play with a controller?
I've tried to change the controls from keyboard to gamepad in the button settings however, the gamepad option has been blacked out. My controller works navigating Big Picture and works for other games so why isn't Obscure dedecting it?

What controller are you using. I have an XBOX One controller which was recognised. Just clicked on select controller and chose controller one. I'm using Windows 10 and finding no issues.
I'm using a PS4 controller with Windows 7 I believe.

When you choose select controller is keyboard the only option that appears or does controller one appear below it?
Yeah, I only get the keyboard option.

It looks like that the PS4 controller is not supported directly by the game. The only options appear to be buy an XBOX 360 wired controller, or download software packages like pinacle game profiler to enable you to play. Joy2Key is free but can take some setting up. Pinnacle game profiler is paid, but definitely supports your controller. You can demo it for free for 21 days to see if it works. I've had success in getting games like Rogue Trooper and Mass Effect to play with my controller, and for the most part they have profiles for a wide selection of games that you can download easily from there website. Plus at the moment it is half price.

Sorry can't help you better.
Alright, how about if I ask this question instead. I'm starting to experience this with more games now where the controller doesn't seem to be active and I can only play the game with my keyboard. Now, I can navigate my way through Big Picture with my controller, yet when I enter a game through Big Picture the game fails to respond to my controller. Has this been an issue to anyone before and is there a way I can possibly fix it?

If the controller is working in Big Picture it's obviously avtive. Is this affecting some of your older games that have been working with the controller before or recent purchases. If so can you name a few of the games so that I can look around the web.

Regards
Most of the games I've been having issues with are fairly recent purchases. I've tested the games that are supposedly compatable with controllers and none of them work. The last three games I tried were Payday 2, Obscure and POSTAL 2.

Payday2 again doesn't seem to be supported. With regards to POSTAL 2 this thread may help you get your controller working but I can't guarantee it.

The truth is you are at the mercy of the developers. The XBOX 360 gamepad has become the standard gamepad for many as it has been supported by Microsoft from the early days of the XBOX 360. Playstation pads up until the release of the Dualshock 4 have traditionally needed third party hardware/software to get them to work with windows. (I'm still annoyed that after the launch of Windows Vista that I was never able to get my PS2 to USB converter working.

Even XBOX wireless controllers have been flaky for some game releases, with Windows 10 breaking the function of the controller.

It might be worth getting a wired XBOX 360 controller as a backup. It's not what you want to hear probably. Alternatively as I say pick up a one of the software options above.

As for Steam and the Big Picture support for PS4 controller. They have always been fans of the PC as an open platform, and consequently support linux and mac users as well.

Not owning a Dualshock 4 (hell the last playstation I had was the PS1). I don't know what sort of driver support it has in Windows.

As for future purchases all I can suggest is check the forums to see which games are supported.

Regards.
Alright, I'll look into that. Thank you very much for the support, I appreciate it.

You're trying to use a DInput Controller with an XInput game. That won't work... Unless you are using a wrapper to emulate a 360 Controller. X360CE for example. I would suggest to just buy an XBOX 360 wired Controller for best possible experience in PC gaming though. It's simply Plug'n Play and it is natively supported by most recent years PC games and probably all future ones. You also won't have any trouble configuring it, as most games that support XInput (360 Controller) have premade button layout presets.

So I'm having the same problem. I was able to get my controllers to work with X360CE but I still can't do co-op. The game will recognize 1 controller is plugged in, but it won't recognize that 2 are.

with some games you must have the controller turned ON/plugged before starting the game. I'm not sure why, but some games dont detect the controller if you turn it on after starting the game

Thanks for replying! I already made sure of this and it still didn't work out.

Shift Tab then controller settings then click on current button layout and click on community layouts and add xbox 360 support then hit the square button on your controller and shift tab back to the game should work now
