AI was used in the film sequences, yes, how else could it work without completely changing the original?
This was also done in the Command and Conquer remaster.
But the fact is that the ingame
graphics are changed by hand, the characters, sound ,
everything is redesigned as you can clearly see.
If you want to see an example of little work in a remaster then
look at final fantasy 7-9 as a comparison.
