Syria or Spain first?
Reforged, much like the original, let's you choose whether you want to go to Syria first or Spain. The most logical path is Syria, since that continues the exploration and story of the top left quadrant of the manuscript.

I have never tried to complete the spain route ahead of the Syria one. Is it even possible to do the entire Spain-Montfaucon-Spain route ahead of Syria? I recall with the original game there was a bug for at least one device that would not allow you to complete the Spain route. Or are there even items required from Syria to be able to complete the Spain route?

Well, Spain has 2 chapters. You can do the first Spain segment to get the chalice (and get an opportunity to ask Lopez and the countess about the red ball which otherwise vanishes in Syria), then go to Syria (and show everyone the chalice), but I don't think you'll meet the priest to polish the chalice BEFORE you completed Syria. So no, Spain-Montfaucon-Spain isn't possible ahead of Syria.

Well, I don't know what is the "logical" place to go to first; but Spain is opened on the map before Syria, immediately after andre visits Nico and tells you about the coat of arms, even before you "get" the tripod and Montfaucon really "opens" for exploration.

I remember almost always going to Spain first and carry the chalice half way around the world with me; but come to think of it, it is a little weird.

And there was a certain bug with that route on some versions (not PC), so if you go to Spain first you couldn't even get Syria on the map or something.

P.S. What interests me the most is; after all these years playing BS1, I still don't know what has Nico done with Peagram's Gem? After George finds about Marib, she tells him to leave the Tripod here and she will send it to museum/andre anonymously; and she also says you better leave the Gem here too and that's it!? So, did she sell it in the end!?
