No, only the host saves progress at this point in time, we will see if any changes will be made to the system but for now, only the host saves progress.

This must be patched asap.
if you join a coop game that has more progress in the game, do you want to ruin your singleplayer progress with that? and there are many more problems with async progress.
bigger games have this problem, too (generation zero, wolfenstein: youngblood)
it is easy to say: "fix this" but if you think about it. there is no easy solution
Hi Zyddie.
Thanks for your reply. I've got it, but you do please understand that in the Co-Op Campaign the guest progresses have to be saved too.
We've bought the game to play in Co-Op Mode, and so we hope you will be patched this issue.
Thanks!
I agree. We hope a patch will be released in order to save the guest progresses too!
Bye!
There's so many options including but not limited to marking it as a co-op save game, giving the player the choice to save etc.
Of course most proper co-op titles these days support progress based saving due to the underlying game design - like chapter based, character progression based etc.
In the case of Aquanox save games would make most sense though.
In this way we could walk through the campaign together giving a meaning to the Co-Op mode.
Neither of us particularly want to do this game solo and we've done more than two hours each so no refunds for a game that can't get the coop working like pretty much any other coop campaign game we've played.
Figure it out.
Indeed, we stopped playing this game until they fix it.
So, the players' credits, ship upgrades, weapons should all be saved, and if a player skips a part of the game, he will also get any crucial items he might have missed.
When a game is rejoined, the story progress is shared with the Host, the joining player will be in the same area as the Host.
Savefiles can also be copied from other players, but in that case, the joining player will take over the host's ship setup.
If anything is behaving differently, that's most likely a bug.
Hi! I am the one playing the co-op mode with AlienwareAR, and after reading this last reply, we tried again, starting from the beginning once more. Turns out that it is exactly the same as before. Once we close the game and return to desktop the guest save disappears (unlocks and inventory). It remains if we just go back to main menu and then load the game again, but obviously we have to close it at some point. Plus, we can't really save, it's just autosaves, and they aren't very frequent... You have to complete a whole mission to get one. Therefore this game remains impossible to play in co-op mode for us. We will wait for a fix from the developers, for now we remain extremely disappointed, we really hope it will get better as we have enjoyed it so far!
Thanks!
