Personally, I'd only buy on Steam out of curiosity if it got a good sale in the future. And that's highly unlikely. So I'll stick with buying from Fanza. It's 8800 JPY with 1600 JPY back in points. Plus it releases on Steam a week late.
I don't use DL Site, not since they lost my account with several purchases on it when they merged accounts a while back. You'll have to check what release date and time they show. Official release date should be Sept. 1. Which is the date listed on Illgame's site. Fanza unlocks the game at midnight, Sept. 1.
1 week or 1 year, it's not going to change the Steam version being worst version.
I discourage you from buying it.
The character creation is barebones with very limited cosmetics options.
But the problem is that the game itself just doesn't work: both "main story/Play" and "Free sex" mode just goes into infinite loading.
For 60 bucks it's definitely not worth it.
It's basically HS2 with a coat of anime paint and less clothes... and a lot less mods ofc
The character creator is better than the ones used in any of the previous anime styled games. For example you have far more control over hair, with the editor adopting similar options to that in Ai Shojo / Honey Select 2 / Room Girl. Yes, it's lacking clothing, but then, this is an illusion game and they've always lacked clothing at release -- many of the items are added with the post-release patches.
Your other problem though... Either your files are corrupted or it's a possible problem with your version of windows. I take it it's not a Japanese language build? If you didn't already, I would suggest trying to reinstall by moving the setup folder to the root of your C drive (e.g. C:\setup). The cab files don't always extract correctly if you attempt to install from any other location.
I can only tell you that story mode and free sex do work on my machine. But my windows 10 build is a Japanese language one, and I installed the game after moving the setup folder to the C drive.
I mean, it's an illusion game. Its website made it very clear what was going to be in it. If you were expecting something amazingly different from any other illusion game, that's kind of on you. Perhaps this is an argument for why illgames should have waited a year before releasing on Steam, to make sure there was plenty of first party and third party additions before making it largely available to the English speaking audience.
It would've been a great base for modders to bite into, but IL2CPP so... yeeeee
It's on par with everything since Emotion Creator. And follows the same model as all their other releases since Koikatsu. They've already started the "free" DLC patches, with today's one being bunny suits. Simple fact is, like any other illusion game, if you're not prepared to be drip fed extras over a few months, then buy the expansion to be drip fed for a few more months, then you're best off waiting to buy.
I agree the lack of modding will be detrimental, but it's clear illgames don't want modding. Perhaps they intend to try selling smaller DLC again, like illusion tried with Ai Shojo / Honey Select.
You say you've been around for a lot of release, so surely you can see illusion have followed this exact pattern for years now. and although illgames claim "innovation" in their motto, I doubt we'll see any real innovation in this model. It's worked too well for too long for illusion/them.
This is quite weak, even adjusting expectations for Illusion levels or releases historically. I could live with it if I saw any prospect of a modding community blooming around it though, but ye. Overpriced and Underdelivered. Not been this dissapointed with a Illusion game since Secrossphere. I see nothing here that's really interesting. Even RoomGirl at least had some interesting ideas, hell, even Secrossphere, which in my opinion is the absolutely weakest thing they've dropped, had SOME interesting ideas that kinda gave it a reason to be, awful as it was.
This is just a bland cookie cutter, release by the numbers with assets blatantly carried over from KK, and they didn't even grab a good amount of it.
