Average wages are nowhere near that high for most Japanese. You'd have to be a 40 something salaryman or highly qualified new hire based in Tokyo to see anything near that as a monthly wage. Most younger people will be looking at 100K to 250K for a salaried job. Lower for a lot of factory work. And lower for anyone outside of major cities (Tokyo, Osaka, etc.)
Now add to that that everything has gone up recently. Tax has doubled. Foodstuffs have seen their prices increases (while weights decrease). Electricity, gas, all of that's shot up drastically in price too. Wages, have not increased for most people. Actually, wages have dropped in many areas. For every company like Nintendo that announce they've increased base wages for new hires by an extra 10 to 20K per month, many others have dropped their wages by the same amount or more.
