Dofus
Free 2 Try!
To those new players from Steam that have never played Dofus before.
That see the Free 2 Play tag and expect a standard F2P experience, let it be known.

Dofus is NOT a standard Free To Play MMORPG.
It's more like a Trial/Demo experience that limits/confines you to a small portion of the game world (Incarnam/Astrub) and from certain features and progression.
You won't be able to do anything outside these area's until you obtain a subscription.

Luckily a monthly Subscription is cheaper than most Subscription based MMORPG's on the market currently so it is more accessable if you're on a budget.

There is also the Kama Exchange that allows you to trade Kama to Ogrines (the cash shop curreny) or vice versa, so if you manage to make a lot of Kama it would be possible to purchase and maintain a subscription by trading Kama to Ogrines. (though for those new F2P players this might prove difficult to initially obtain due to limitations and current economy on servers when it comes to merching)

It is also worth noting that Ogrines obtained through the Kama Exchange do expire after a period of time (30-60 days or something i forget) so don't forget about them.

So should I just get this from the website to get acess to everything?
You still get access to everything from steam (I think), but the website is easier to navigate IMO.

both versions are the same.

I didn't see the tag and played the game until I reached lvl 10. Unlocked Haven Bag access and saw that I had to subscribe to use it and access "other areas". I logged out and unistalled within 30 seconds.

Okay then? What does it matter if you aren't willing to pay to play more of the game and support it by that point then I don't see why Ankama should care.

What are they losing, what is the point of these posts like you think Ankama is just going "Oh no I lost a customer worth literally $0. Thats $0 we could have spent on absolutely nothing."

the problem here is Dofus is label Free to Play when it's not.
yes there's a extremly limited demo like experience and it's free, but that isn't really what Free to Play means. (demo and F2P are two different things)

They have failed to update with the times as Free 2 Play games became more popular and ultimatly the main source of MMO's on the market.
They learned when it came to games like Wakfu or Dofus Touch which are true F2P titles under their production.
Which is kind of stupid since now they run 2 instances of Dofus but one is F2P and the other is P2P seperated by platform choice (and a few version updates)

no other games on the market take this limited route on content these days.
and if they do it's generally a seperate Demo experience for a Buy2Play game or something.
Dofus is one of the few games i've played that was this limited for a Free player, it's no surprise that people would be upset and feel tricked by the lack of explanation and inaccurate use of the F2P term.

I do agree that they need to change it because it is not free to play like it says. Atleast in the beginning. Later on it can be because you can subscribe using in game currency. But as for overall it is not free. However although im not for it if dofus was free to play they could start working on packs that allowed players access to. Different things. Kinda like wakfu did with the xp bonus kama bonus and what not. I beleieve they could also. Get. Access to areas first before they come out. Certain subscriber items\mounts etc. I believe. If this was set into play. dofus would probably make even more money. Than they are currently requiring It to be pay to play. Atleast. If they allowed people. To have a choice they would be more likely to spend. Real money over time. Also bringing in tons of new players. Take wakfu for example. At one point they were free to play has. A bunch. Of people on it. And a lot of subscribers. Now its not as popular but thats becauee of unwanted changes and lack of support and content. Being released. So i dont think we. Should jump to the free two play train but if it happens ill still subscribe. Sorry if theres typos i wrote. This on my phone lol.

And this is the kinda attitude that will help keep ppl from coming to dofus oh you dont like the game i like let me brush you off with an insult like a child would do. Also i see ppl talking about buying time with ingame currency but that is just a carrot on a stick no new player will be able to afford to buy sub with ingame currency unless they want their entire gameplay farming for 10 hours a day for a week sub and then with that week sub their whole time is agaiin just trying to farm for enough currency to buy another week instead of enjoying the game there is a reason that all the good reviews for this game so far have been by ppl that already play the game. I dont see this games population growing very much if any from coming to steam the pop. wil rise at first but not many ppl if any will stay after they find out they only can play 5% of the game without forking over a subscription.

I disagree with. The comment about the game not likely to grow much. I however agree with the statement of using in game currency to sub almost impossible for lower levels. Which is one reason i would be willing. To sub new players after they finished. Astrub and incarnam quests. For. A week so they can try out the whole game to see if they want to sub.

Thanks for the warning. They really shouldn't label it "Free To Play" on the store page

I agree they should not. have it as Free To Play. But in reality it is semi free to play just not enough to classify it as a Free To Play Game.
was so happy when i saw this game free to play on steam but it look like you still have to pay to have acces to all the map R.I.P.... thx for the info am glad i see that before i download it

If you decide to try. It. Id be happy to p2p you for a week if you finish astrub and incarnam!!
Yes, it's true that most people pay for membership. However; one thing you're not taking into account is that this is a company. Companies cannot survive without an income, and they're doing the best they can with trying to keep subscribing cheap while still keeping their head above the surface. I don't think it's a "scam" to label Dofus free to play, because it's a legit option. You can easily* play the full game without dropping a cent on membership. The reason most people pay is because they either don't have the patience to use in-game currency to subscribe, or they care about the company enough to support it with real money. I'm the latter.
The community alone is reason enough to play! The game promotes a huge amount of teamwork which leads to almost everyone being positive, and respectful, and wanting to help each other out.
That being said, the game itself is one of the best I've ever played. It fits perfectly with my ideal game. I know that's not the case for everyone, but it is for me. I would GLADLY pay for membership even if Ankama was the richest gaming company in the world because the game itself is incredible. Think about that before you write this game off completely. Give it a shot before you decide if it's the game for you and make your opinion of it by playing, not just reading the forums. As said above it is completely free to try!

There's plenty of income options for Free 2 Play though.
the MMO market wouldn't have shifted to F2P if it didn't make them money, That's also the reason why a lot of them make the change. (more profitable now)

it's also not easy to obtain a subscription as a F2P with the current markets.
to buy a simple 1 week subscription which really isn't that much time to really experience much of the game.
1 week costs like 1100 ogrines which equals to about 900kk i beleive.
That's not a very easily achieved amount with the limitations F2P players have or how the markets are.

even as a subscriber it can be a difficult amount to obtain in the early levels.

I'm hoping as much as anybody that they make the switch, but it can be really risky for a company that didn't start out that way, and it's not something that happens instantly.
