Enclave

Another possible fix for the random crashes
Disable Threaded Optimization.

I didn't test it extensively, but the game didn't crash for the hour I played after disabling the above setting.

Edit: Game crashed once, though it happened after I restarted a survival map multiple times.
While it doesn't solve the issue, it seems to make the game more stable compared to before when it usually crashed much more frequently.

where do you disable Threaded Optimization?

Nvidia Control Panel > Manage 3D Settings > Add Enclave to the list > Scroll to the bottom till you see Threaded Optimization > Change it fron Automatic to No.

Dunno how it works for AMD though :/

I literally just found another - keep Quality Shadows set to just 'player'. setting it to 'All' can cause a crash.

The Quality Shadows adjustment worked for me, but only for a few stages. What saved me was running the game through Proton 15.3-6. No crashes since then and I have almost finished the game. You can choose that through settings/properties/compatibility before launching the game.

I set the compatibility to Windows XP Service Pack 2 and I also ran the game as an admin. I could play a long time but sadly it did crash still.

But also more importantly it somehow immensly reduced the loading times, made the game run smoother and with more fitting brightness settings and also let me choose 60Hz (before that I could only choose 59hz going at 1920x1080 resolution)
