To run it, I've got the main exe on compatibility mode with XP service pack 3, and its running as administrator. The run as admin is a good place to start with win10 due to the way UAC works now. Win 10 is less of a uncooperative git now than it was one when it first went live but running as admin usually fixes any program startup issues. With older software, try to run the installers themselves as admin too; you might need the registry fix to bring up this option in the shell menu, which you can google and download or edit the reg manually - always backup the registry or that particular key before manking any changes. Obviously this doesn't apply to steam, as I believe steam automatically alleviates whatever it installs to admin anyhow, but it might help if you have some older stuff knocking around that you want to install.
For those not familiar with this stuff, here's some basic instructions on compatibility mode and running .exe's as admin:
1. The game is located here, go to the instal folder
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Jack Orlando
2. Highlight and RIGHT click over the "Jack Orlando" executable file and click properties at the bottom of the list (this pop up list is referred to as your shell menu)
3. In properties, click on the "Compatibility" tab.
4. In the middle section of the window (called "compatibility mode"), tick the "Run this program in compatibility mode for" box, and then select the appropriate version of windows in the drop down window below. I picked XP with the latest service pack which is the " Windows XP (serivce pack 3)" option, as this works for most older software.
5. In the bottom section of the window (Called "settings"), tick the "run this program as administrator" box.
6. Click "Apply" at the bottom of the properties window, close it, and then run the game via the folder or steam, it wont make any difference.
PS, if you haven't checked win 10 privacy settings yet on your device yet, do so now ASAP. Pretty much everything you do gets sent to microsofts servers, including keystrokes (apparrently cortana gets to know you this way), also, create a local login - there's absolutely no reason for microsoft to have your email address or your GPS location. Intrusive seems to tame a word to describe these shenanigans.
I have two screens too, the game always starts in the primary screen.... Have you tried compatibility or run as admin? Instructions above should you need them.
Hmm, strange. When your running out of ideas when it comes to steam games, its always a good idea to check installation. Go to your library, right click on the game and bring up properties, in the new window select local files and click the "verify integrity of game files", Steam will check the files and replace any corrupted ones. If that doesn't work, reapply the compatibility settings and run as admin again, as Im wondering whether that patch might be causing problems - I didn't need to apply it on 10.
Barring that, all I can think of is conflicts from security software but I'm running Avast and superantispyware without any issues. If you want to rule this out you'll need to add the steams game folder to your exclusions list:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common
You can google instructions for your antivirus, if you have one. If your still using windows defender you should be able to google instructions for that too.
If none of that works then I'm not sure I can make any further suggestions. In which case you might have to contact steam support and include a link to this thread. If you can't play it all they might consider a refund, its not like you haven't been trying! Im not sure if the devs are still around but they might be able to offer further suggestions.
Good luck!
Bugger, two monitor setup here too. What might make you feel better is that what I have played is bloody awful, I love adventure games and this is by far the biggest pile of gobshite I've played in the genre. I'm tempted to ask for a refund myself - which I think you might have to do now. Discworld noir is awesome if you haven't played it already, I can make other suggestions if you've played it or aren't sure on what to get, I've been gaming since the 80's so I know quite a few! :) This thing however is nearly as bad as deadly premonition - don't buy that unless you really like "its so bad its good" type games or films and get the unofficial patch if you'll be playing on PC as the port is practically unplayable without it. Happy adventuring!
Necrothreading somewhat - but I have just finished disco elysium and its f@*king amazing - next best detective game since disc world, another good one is the painscreek killings..... A bit too many combination locks for my taste but solid otherwise for an indpendant game, but I find it really lazy making the player guess via DOB's and other important dates, never mind the various permutations of digit length and day month year formats, its not a hard puzzle just tedious instead. Anyhow I'll shut up now, happy hols!
Try "Unavowed" "Toonstruck" "Dont Escape 4 days to survive" and "phoenix wright" ;)
Happy holidays
Thanks for the suggestions mate, I will have a gander right now :)
