Same here. The game crashes straight after they get out of the boat following the intro and it wipes my pc completely. Horrendous.

use software render. Mine works fine..it's not as if hardware render makes it any better graphically anyway

Well I can,t even start the game on Vista. Gorky 7 stopped working as soon as I launch. Tried the usual tricks (re-started Steam, run as admin), no joy. Tried compatibility modes and on Windows 95 or 98 it gets to the choose settings screen. Graphics card rendering and it stops working again, software rendering and I get a black screen and the game hangs. Gotta Alt/Tab to desktop and close it with task manager which informs me its not responding. I know you take a gamble with old games but store page states it runs on Vista, normally you get given a warning if there might be problems on newer OS.

Just checked and you can't even get help from Steam Support for this game it is not listed

The game is known for being utterly bugged. I was hoping for the Steam version would solve this, seems not.

Fixed it. Run ffdshow video decoder configuration, press the "DirectShow Control" buttton, check the "don't use ffdshow in" box then press the "edit" button at the end of that line. Now press "add" and navigate to the Gorky 17 exe. (Program files/Steam/SteamApps/Common/Gorky 17/Gorky 17 exe.). Works now in windows 98 combatibility mode and software rendering. Just checked and hardware rendering works now too.

Use the Windows XP SP2 compatibility and Software Render, it will work.

good windows XP SP2 and software render is ok :) but is there a way to fix this annoying blinking, in game theire is some times all seconds the screen going black and turn back normal ?

If you got this error that mean DEP is enabled and this game require to gorky17.exe be added as DEP exception. On windows 8.1 Deep config for me was greyed so i cant add exception so you need run command as admin: bcdedit.exe /set {current} nx OptIn. then restart. After restart add gorky17.exe as exception compatybility mode windwos XP also if is still not working you got in folder "versions" -> alternative1 -> just replace wit original gorky17.exe and try
