How i got my Gorky 17 to work great on win 10

1/ Goto your game folder normally:
local disk c: / program files (x86) / steam / steamapps / common / gorky 17,
2/ make a backup copy of the gorky 17.exe you see here and put it somewhere safe,
3/ Open the Alternetives folder then alternetive 2,
4/ make a back up copy of the gorky 17.exe that is in that folder,
5/ right click on the gorky 17.exe in this folder and selct properties,
6/ click the compatability tab,
7/ check the box for run this program in compatability mode for and select windows 98/windows me,
8/ check the box for disable display scaling on high dpi settings,
9/ check the box for run this program as an administrator,
10/ save the new setttings,
11/ copy and paste the new gorky 17.exe in to the game folder c: / program files (x86) / steam / steamapps / common / gorky 17 replacing the old one.
12 start the game and select primary display driver/rgb emulation.

What this fixed for me:
Game started without crashing,
cut scenes play without prblems (except start menu is sort of pasted over first one)
no invisable chars,
no sound stuttering,
no game crashes with sound stuttering.

Or you could just download the gorky 17.exe i made http://www.filedropper.com/gorky17
then after backing up the gorky 17.exe in the game folder copy and paste the new one in replacing the old .exe
then when you start the game select "primary display driver/rgb emulation"

Hope this helps everyone else who is having problems :).

ps: please dont ask for help on anything, i dont know it took me months of trial and error and giving up loads of times to sort this out :(.

The problem of the introduction video continues (you can see the video with the background menu) but at least now you can play, before the game was closed when you skipped the video

Hello Cragarion and all here,

I followed the steps exactly and the graphics glitch of chars + monsts are still mostly invisible. I have even tried compatibility of other Windows OSs.

I am running the standard "Software Renderer" while I am hoping someone here can solve this issue.

Sorry i have no more ideas, i got my ideas from other posts none of them worked by themselves so i tried several combinations of them till i found something that worked, all i can suggest is trying the same thing.

So far: Software Renderer runs with minimal problems. An occasional CTD, an occasional visual bug where the colors in the game become 'rainbow color'. But all of these problems are solved by saving regularly and re-launching Odium / Gorky 17 game. You will still be able to enjoy your game in the original version without any issues in Windows 10 at this point of time.

I hope to figure out how to use the Graphics acceleration engine instead but at this point, all characters and enemies are invisible.

Keep trying you will get there eventually, like i said in my original post it took me months of trial and error before i got mine working properly.
All the best hope you get it sorted sooner rather than later.

Thank you Cragarion, Sir. I will keep the fans of Odium here up to date when my system changes for this game of graphics setttings. I can leave you all with a good note that I am happy that most games today on Steam run without issues on Windows 10 & Mac, even old-school games, except to change the graphics settings.

If you got this error that mean DEP is enabled and this game require to DEP exe to be as exception. On windows 8.1 Deep config for me was greyed so i cant add exception so you need run command as admin: bcdedit.exe /set {current} nx OptIn. then restart. After restart add gorky17.exe as exception compatybility mode windwos XP also if is still not working you got in folder "versions" -> alternative1 -> just replace wit orignal gorky17.exe and try

Example:

1. Go to your Gorky 17 folder in \Steam\steamapps\common\Gorky 17
2. Open .....


In this way anyone will understand your instructions. It would really be appreciated. I have been wishing to run Gorky 17 in nice graphics since I got it installed on Steam for Windows 10 as I need to run it in Software renderer now. I hope you have a good week.
