Looking for similar games
Hello.

I'm looking for similar RTS style games like oldschool Lords of the Realm and Knights and Merchants. Are there any around? I know about Medieval Total War, Settlements and Stronghold. Any others?

Age of Empires?

Empire Earth. I've only played the first one. It's similar to Empires: Dawn of the Modern World. You can find it on Gog. Probably have to set speed to slow, though since it's an old game. You can't set patrols for a specific area like EDMW though, only boundary patrols. It allows you to set your beginning and ending eras for a 'quick' two or so hour game instead of an all nighter.

Another RTS is a Win 95 game, 7 Kingdoms Ancient Adversaries. The AI is merciless. At higer levels I use a large water map. Sometimes all of the other kingdoms will turn on you and you have no choice but to take to the water and hope you find an island before you run out of bucks and all your equipment including your boat starts to break down due to lack of maintenance. The AI will pursue you and if you're lucky, you'll have rebuilt your economy and war machine before it finds you. This is after the AI destroys all of your assets and takes over your towns.

One game lasted a little over 24 hours. Once you get the hang of it, you can finish a game in 2 to 3 hours. It has a few bugs like your allies not letting you buy them out and they surrender to your enemy, even if it's going broke.

The 2nd one, Frythan Wars is goofy and cartoonish looking. The reviews claim it plays like the first one, but the times I've tried to play it, I've gotten disgusted after the first 20 minutes or so.
The scenarios even have a "win scenario" button.

What about Seven Kingdoms 2? Any good?

BTW, if you can think of any other oldschool RTS games, list them :)

I could never get into it. From what I recall, there was a falling out between the developer of 7KAA Trevor Chan and the publisher. 7K2 is cartoonish and seems to play differently. I had tried the demo and couldn't get into it. I found the full version a few years ago for a buck at a .99 cent store. Tried it again, didn't like it. Tried a couple of more times and no go. The frytans and the lairs are redesigned. Previousy you would take over a village thorugh influence and bribes. 7K2 is more about force. But that's just my opinion. It's cheap pricewise and you might still be able to find the demo.

I do play Empires: Dawn of the Modern World still. I used to play a game almost every day. I'm also looking for an RTS to replace them. I've played Age of Empires and some others but they have kind of a 'storybook' feeling to them. Empires:DMW is cool in that every unit has a catchphrase and it's more action oriented but ends at WWII. Each empire has its strengths and unique elements. Empire Earth continues into the future. There are times playing either of those two games I have to pause the game because there is so much going on at once I fell like I needed to stop and catch my breath and look at the big picture instead of just reacting..

Empires:DMW was a Stainless Steel Stuidios release, but they went belly up. There is a demo available still, but it starts off at the 20th century so it's hard to understand what's going on since you get attacked almost as soon as you start.

I bought Uprising 1 and 2 but haven't had a chance to play them yet. From what I've saw before bought them it's similar but it's only tanks.

The Settlers IV is kinda similar to KAM, I don't know about the rest of the series since I've only played the 4th one.

There's no other city builder that take combat as seriously as this game.
Settler IV is fairly close in some aspects but it doesn't really attempt to incorporate the combat system into traditional RTS like this game did. I really think this game could've created it's own niche within RTS games but the devs didn't think so and thought The Setllers series would carry the torch but they never picked it up in the first place...

i'm afraid not, for some reason these games don't get made anymore even though there's stil clones of the old C&C style games being released that pretty much all flop.
perhaps someone should tell those guys there's this huge gap where there are players looking for a game that doesn't exist, or well... the last of them was made 20-25 years ago.
SETTLERS III. available on GOG.com.

I FINALLY FOUND A FOLLOW UP!

Knights Province

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=roxaP39Q6Ow

Was always looking for an alternative witch is more up-to-date, havent played it much, but its nice we have a good follow up, free download! still in development, graphic/art-style its IMO a downgrade, and also it isn't beter than the original, but that they tried to attempt it gives hope.:steamhappy:

Kingdoms and Castles on Steam is pretty good.
Pflanz Dec 27, 2020 @ 3:17am
For some reason i can't play the HD version of this... Settlers 6 also doesn't work... I see that Knights province hasn't been updated since september i also prefer games on steam.

Is their an actual similiar game to this available on steam? So not one with similarities but a 80% ish similiar game.
